All of my sketches this week are based around a feeling, rather than a literal place. You can thank Adrian’s use of inverted commas in the prompts for that one – I felt like it was a giant prod telling me to stop taking things so literally. Well played.
I think that my favourite sketch of the week was Inside. I had originally intended to make a video centred around a hangout I was already having with my friends, but when that footage turned out awfully, I went with something a little more basic, but a little bit more personal.
With the filming of 5 separate pages of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (crossing my fingers that I didn’t breach any copyright laws with that move) and cutting them all together in a fast-paced succession, I was aiming to recreate the feeling of being completely lost inside of a book, or an alternate reality. Obviously the Harry Potter series are phenomenal for any fans of literary escapism. I think I’m most impressed with this creation since I tried to make it personal to my own ability to completely zone out into my own little world. I find it difficult to not over-think these sketches (as I have previously discussed several times), so I like the fact that I just took something that was simple and felt right and ran with it.
