<This is an old blog entry I wrote last year. Aug 19, 2011> :)
Turns out, in the age of the internet, our (self-believed) original ideas are always one step behind the academics.... LOL

By picking up a pen and write, we create
By picking up a camera and shoot, we create
By picking up a paint brush and draw, we create
By picking up a microphone and sing, we create
By picking up two sticks and knit, we create
By making out with someone, we create
By turing up the fire and cook, we create
By waking up at 6 instead of 9, we create
By polishing up our reassume and use it, we create
By picking up a rubbish and put it on display, we create
By picking up a log and throw it into the fire, we create
By watering up a container and put it into the freezer, we create
By acknowledging an idea and put it in practice, we create
By lifting up the toilet seat and SH*T, we create

How often do we create?
How often do we consume?

We are consuming, when we spend money
We are consuming, when we use credit cards
We are consuming, when we travel
We are consuming, when we go out
We are consuming, when we look through our eyes
We are consuming, when we read news
We are consuming, when we watch TV
We are consuming, when we surf the web
We are consuming, when we listen to a song
We are consuming, when we cut down trees
We are consuming, when we just think in our heads
We are consuming, when we just seat and listen in a lecture

By consuming, we are offered the opportunity to create, but the question is... Are we willing to hassle ourselves to create when we can simply rejoice in the pleasure of consuming. Because, after all, everyone knows that we all die in the end no matter how hard we fight. So why choose hardship when pleasure is just lying plain up for grabs?

The world is constantly luring for our attention, inevitably we are inclined to drench ourself in this soaked-up world. However, too often we ended up becoming so indulged and addicted that we became the shopaholics of our society. Our willingness to create or make a difference is submerged by our yearnings for the excitements of gaining unsubstantial satisfactions. As a result, we became the labour of our lives that we no longer feel the need to take control, but instead we look up into the sky with our eyes wide open, ignorantly believing that we deserve and pray "Dear Lord, my heart has dried up, my soul is tortured. Life is a hardship, life is suffering, save me and release me from all this pain...."

An idea is only worthy, when we put it in practice
It cost nothing to purchase, but it will cost you when its value is not exceeded to its premises.

If an Artist performed and no one was there to see,
Did he performed?
Does it matter whether he performed well or not?
Would he perform better if there is an audience watching?
Does the artist even care?

Come and see the greatest show on Mars!

Lenny - Task 1
I edited the Lenny video a long long time ago... But I just didn't want to post it on vimeo because it's not something that I filmed... I just edited it -.-

I thought it was a practising task, I edit it and had some hilarious discussion about it... THE SOUND!! AND THE DUDE WITH THE TRIPOD AND SCRIPT!! LMAO!  Hope that will never happens to our shoot.....

Editing Task - Lenny from Scott Huang on Vimeo.

  • For editing, we need to really know the footages before we start to edit them!
  • With sound, the dialogues volume in each footages are unbalanced, hence would be very jagger if we just use the dialogue directly from the visuals. It's best to pick out one that sounds good and use it to match the visual, so its more consistent.
  • Things to improve on, I would like to spent more time on editing the sound, when I edited lenny, I focused more on the continuity of the visuals and was a bit slack on fixing the sounds. So the atoms sounds are really unbalanced.
  • Overal, it's fun to play around with other's footages. We might laugh at how badly filmed or acted the footages are, but be aware, we might well make the same mistakes!

Lenny - Task 2
Turns out that the LENNY tasks are not done yet... and today we just did Task 2.

Things I learnt from shooting Lenny 2 is the importance of pre-production and communication between the crew member.
I didn't read the script before class, so we have to make up the shots on the spot while trying to find a box....

PRE-PRODUCTION IS CRUCIAL!!

Our film was a mess -.- because we didn't plan properly, somehow I even think that it's worst than Lenny 1..... That's just hope that the Lenny series will keep on becoming better not worst!

The other thing I learnt is ALWAYS BE PREPARED OF THE UNEXPECTED!
Our 3.5mm audio cord was broken.... That's why the sound quality was so bad the when the audio mixer was switched to 'return'. We should have noticed it earlier.

Last but not least, COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE CREW MEMBERS.

Because we have never work with each other before, so during the Lenny shoot sometimes our actions can't be in-sync with one another! I think we just need more practise and make sure that we all are familier with each other's work flow :) We just need to find the right way/language to communicate with one another. There are still a lot of room for improvement and I'm confident that all will be improved!

It's amazing how closely linked each of our subjects are in the MEDIA course!

Though Michel de Certeau's book on 'The practice of everyday life' is an Integrated Media reading, but the content is actually much much more than the contour of IM course! It's not just about the internet or social media, but more about ourselves! The way of living and our ways of learning :) The way in which we deal with the obstacles in our life and turn them into something that advances and benefits us!

We gain the most being in tough situations as oppose to just doing things that we are comfortable doing...

It's all about about encountering conflicts and resolving them, turning it into stepping stones that help us to reach higher!

I was very confused by the reading when I first read it last week, but after Adrain explained the text in the lecture and the tutorial, I began to understand more and more about the text.
It's like the way (data goes to information and to knowledge! possibly wisdom!)
This text to me was just a bunch of words stuffed together as a book..... NOTHING REALLY MAKES SENSE!! (DATA)
After Adrain's lecture/tute, I slow began to understand the text (data to information)!
And what's more interesting is that, once I began to understand the text and read it a more times, everything I do... I can kind of relate and draws connection to Certeau's text!!

EVERYTHING IS RELATED TO MAKE AND DO!!!!!

Wether we go watch a movie about 'SUSHI MASTER' while eating sushis at Cinema Nova or We buy Snag Stand's sausages while going to Hungry Jacks getting the $2 dollar lunch! It's amazing how our way of seeing are always changing and developing every time we learn something new, read a book or watch a movie!

Our perception is always in constant state of flux, constantly evolving and influenced by the things we encounter :D

And what's more interesting is that, the informations that we are feed will slowly develops into knowledge through time and our experience!

"TODAY I EXPERIENCED SOMETHING THAT I HOPE TO UNDERSTAND" - thanks to Robyn for introducing this great film to us! (The Five Obstruction!)

All I can say is that it's not adventure without the conflicts and struggles!

It's not a voyage without the strong winds and waves splashing at your face!

The road ahead might seemed tough and overshadowed by uncertainty and anxiety,
but I can still see the light behind this myth of darkness and the challenges it brings.

Like Adrain points out, we are all situated under the confined and restriction of strategies, but we can always apply tactics that turn the situation! We can't change the nature around us, but we can certainly choose the way we deal with it! Stay faithful and stay positive :D

From watching the FIVE OBSTRUCTION, I realised that the five obstructions are like rocks! Rock can block the roads ahead of you, but it can also be the stepping stone for us to reach higher and achieve more!

I hope the course of our learning can keep on developing and evolving! And I will understand more and more through the course!
I always believe that as long as we have faith in what we do, IT HAS ALL BEING TAKEN CARED and WE JUST NEED TO KEEP ON MOVING FORWARD!

I have FAITH, therefore, I SEE.

Come Outside and Play! from Scott Huang on Vimeo.

Unfortunately, this week I could only finish one video :(
I really need to find a way to be casual with the sketches and focus not so much about the product but the ideas it transmit!

Having said that this video is without doubt the most RANDOM video I've ever made! ENJOY!
It's a product of me spending the whole weekend forcing myself to write up a script and
the 3 hours!! Melbourne train experience of taking my sister back to MLC by train on Sunday night.... What a weekend....

"The perfect family never had never lost."

A family that never mourns, a family that don't grief...
Timeless and eternal joy...

A perfect family never happened, never will...
It is a fantasy that takes the forms of reality.....

A fantasy that make us feel complete...
An imaginary goo that fills our hollow shell.
