  4. Matilda

    April 23, 2012 by Sebbieted

We had a mind map of the different kinds of themes and Ideas that we wanted to work with for this current project

We decided on ‘Life Is…’ based around an imaginary girl named Matilda. So the idea behind this is Matilda’s life is……

This was our Persona for Matilda
THE PERSONA:Matilda, a 12-year-old girl, used to have a simple outlook on life. She is the only child of Sam & Jessica Walden. She lost both parents in a car accident. She lives with her wonderful stepmother whom she loves very much. Her favourite colour is pink. She lives in Caufield, Melbourne and studies at Caufield Park Community School. Her stepmother works as a real estate agent.

  5. Process 1

    April 16, 2012 by Sebbieted

We went through a process of group selection. We had to map out the different stages of ‘HOW TO MAKE A K-FILM’ on a graph chart. Obviously my research and essay segment is all the way down low. I prefer making the videos anyway :)

Teamed up with Ida and Liviana for this project :) Perfect blend of thinkers, do-ers and planners :)

We’ll see how this project goes :)

  6. Assignment 1 Essay & K-Film

    April 13, 2012 by Sebbieted

As a media student, I always thought of narratives as something linear, but as I progressed in Integrated Media, I realized that narratives could also be non-linear. In Network Media, we created a website using our basic understandings of hyper linking text and images in a linear fashion where information and ideas flowed in a more direct order. In Integrated Media, these texts, images and videos are linked in a non-linear fashion, we linked each video sketch through keywords in relation to the concept or idea that each of our videos have; different videos may link to other videos that might be unrelated but at the same time share a similar idea or concept. Korsakov is the main tool that I used in the creation of these links.

Instead of just showing the video sketches in Korsakov, I used text below each of the video to provide meaning. The point of the text is to give the audience an understanding of what the videos are and a brief description on the concept and ideas behind them.

Most of the videos revolve around similar concepts. The idea behind each video is based around shapes, colors and emotions. These are some of the main keywords used in the creation of the links. Music and sound effects play a huge role in this as well. At first, I had trouble coming up with concepts for the videos that I made. Then I realized that I was just over complicating things, as the weeks went by, I started to tone down and simplify my videos a lot. Basic ideas were still there; just the method of creating it has changed. I’m very intrigued by 2D and 3D animation. When it came to the first project, I was actually quite excited. I was very inspired by the use of round and square objects because these are the fundamental “building blocks” for creating any object in both 2D and 3D animation. This gave me a lot to think about when it came to the creation of these videos.

Most of my concepts come with an emotional attachment. The use of colors in the videos describes the emotion. For example in the video “Outside”, I used pink and yellow because these colors meant happiness, warmth, bright and playful. Or in “Broken Time” (Away), the lack of colors was necessary in order for the video to have that sense of loneliness and sadness that comes along with moving away from thing, in this case, it’s time.

The assignment required us to film videos, but like what Adrian said before, I’m going to do videos that please myself, and so I decided to combine animation with film. “Between” video was an example of film that became an animation; it was simply a colorful backdrop that I turned into a mosaic styled video. For the videos “Family” and “Myself”, I was very inspired by “The Incredibles’” title sequence, the art of it and the animation style. So I decided to use that as my main references for the video. All the elements in the video from the illustration of the items used to my family members were all hand drawn. I did it not because I had to, but because it’s something that I really enjoyed doing. These video sketch assignments have really opened my eyes and reminded me of what I really loved to do.

Of course with all these animation and film going on, there’s bound to be some hiccups. Over the past few weeks I faced many challenges, the first video task gave me heaps of problems when it came to the format of the videos. Recording in a format that final cut doesn’t recognize just meant that I had to spend a couple of hours converting every clip I had before I could even start to edit. When it came to exporting, there were more problems. Especially when it came to sizing of the videos and the export format. Due to certain limitations of my laptop, I was forced to use the older version of Korsakov. The older version however could not do certain things, mainly, accept my mp4 files. I had to reconvert everything to MOV files. Even then, it didn’t accept the files due to some unknown errors, so I had to use the school’s laptops to finish up my project.

To call this Korsakov film project a success is debatable. I never believe in true success in anything unless there’s perfection in every aspect from start to finish. The process of learning how to conceptualize ideas, creating the videos, exporting and uploading is considered a success to me. Even though I encountered many problems along the way, I somehow manage to troubleshoot or find different means of making do with the situations and get the final product exported out and ready for submission. On a personal level, I find the biggest success would be the fact that I somehow manage to keep to my aesthetics with the change in the way I created the videos without compromising the time spent on making them and still manage to keep up with other school assignments. However, I feel that this Korsakov film could have been a little more narrative in the way it’s created. If I had known from the start what it was going to be like, I would have mapped my ideas out and planned each video accordingly so that it would flow better and the links between them would be more distinct. This is something that I will definitely be looking into for the second Korsakov film.

There was a problem with the school’s raws system, so I had to use dropbox to upload the Korsakov Film. Link can be found below.
