So we kinda have to rethink or re-frame our proposition again. Seth told us to be wary of the legal ramifications of doing such videos might lead to us, him, the course and the school. Not to mention for our future employability. We have to make a pitch to Adrian to whether our idea is deemed okay to continue with.
Seth adviced us to maybe change the title or the context of our proposition. Instead of “Life is a Crime”, he suggested something in the likes of “Life is anti-establishment or anti social”

We met up today to basically think up of a new proposition for our K-film. We had trouble thinking of new propositions and ideas for our K-film.
Initially we thought of taking a word our from our proposition which is “Life is learning, living and loving”. We thought of taking out the “living” part as we thought it was too broad. We needed to have some kind of tighter focus for our project. Although in the end we decided that subtracting ‘living’ from our proposition isn’t enough.
So we had to rethink our entire proposition framework.
After much thinking, we are going with “Life is a Crime”.
We’re planning to go for a non-serious take on Crime or things that we deem to be somewhat criminal. Of course it will be only an act and we’ll state the disclaimer and such. We’re planning to show some of our videos to Seth with this new proposition.

We presented our prototype to the class and we managed to get that 5%!! Feedback is that we need to work within our framework and not make the videos the apply it to the framework.
We listed our groups Strengths and Weaknesses:
Wennie’s Strengths – SNU-ing, thinking up of keywords, Editing of videos
Wennie’s weaknesses – Photoshop, essay writing
Evan’s Strengths – Filming of actual videos, Editing
Evan’s Weaknesses – problem with keywords in Korsakow
Dinie’s Strengths – Filming, editing of videos
Dinie’s Weaknesses – SNU-ing, keywords
Allocation of Tasks for the project
Since the group’s strengths and weaknesses are balanced, we are basically going to divide the workload evenly in the group.Of course we’ll help each other out when a problem arises or when someone in our group needs assistance.

We decided to meet up today to refine our ideas for our group K-Film Assignment and to prepare ourselves for the chance of us getting that bonus 5% marks for next week’s mini critique.
As of now we decided on going with the proposition of “Life is learning, living and loving”. (cheesyyyy)
Some points discussed in the meeting are:
- what to present as prototype for critique in week 10 and hopefully receive a 5% bonus for the prototype. (Needs to contain a minimum of 15 clips and have 2 interfaces)
- Discussed about what is needed in the production portfolio submission of the project (Meeting notes and minutes in which we have to have a minimum of one meeting each week until submission. PDF!!)
- Gantt chart needs to be backlogged all the way to Week 7
- Outline our task allocations within our group based on our strengths and weaknesses.
- Set the specifications of our videos and videos thumbnails.

Finally got a group with Evan and Wennie. In class we were given shitloads of post it notes in which we have to write out propositions that we like and make a physical mind map of the ideas that each group has. We were told to think up of individual ideas so as to be as broad as possible in our scope. I’ve never used so many Post It notes in my life. In the end our tentative decision is to use “Life is..”
Life is…
- Colourful
- A Journey
- A Party
- Unpredictable
- Relationships
- Dull
- Random
We were encouraged to come up with 3 videos for next week so that we can see whether our ideas can actually work out.
Also there’s a 5% bonus that we can snatch in Week 10. We have to have 15 clips and have 2 interfaces and present it to the class.

Korsakow Major group project,
Seth talks about the next assignment which is the Group K-film Assignment:
- Seth suggested using google docs to do essay, basically request a certain number of words under one person; can work collaboratively.
- Nothing wrong with doing with 3 different responses from different people with regards to the theme
- How the lectures/readings are kind of presented, if making connections can I make with other readings and our works.
- Worst thing is not having a starting point. Write about my working process of the K-Film
- Choose a statement, blog about it in the next 5-6 weeks.
- Need to put a statement into context before I write about it. Field of study, why Adrian chose it, and what relation does this statement/reading has with other readings/statement.
- We are…young, stupid, and open, awesome. (are some of the things that I might wanna do)
- It’s good to have a certain amount of openness
- Graph exercise: The aim was to learn what we’re good at, and what we’re not and basically play to each group members’ strengths.
- Planning the big project. Probably think about the things that we did in the previous exercise.
We need to do 60 new Sketches, and I’m currently groupless. OMGWTHBBQ!

We talked about Knowledge Networks.
Network practice –
- More organised and more structured way of expressing ourselves. More streamlined way to filter information, make me more discerning in what to come out with.
- Developing my own position in what we want to do in this course and in network practice.
Video practice –
- Not used to it, get use to it, and can’t live without it.
- Integrate different tools in the network practice. And understand how tools can be used together as a streamlined approach.
- Some people having troubles in making videos because of technical. Can use Vimeo app to edit(I’m going to use Adobe Premiere though).
- Filming everything at one go and not recording one video at a time. Integrate social life with the video task. Don’t have to separate it from normal flow of life. Reuse old footage for new videos.
- Repetition is different from normal documentary practice. Do the videos 3 different ways.
- Don’t have to edit, do editing while we shoot video.
Talk about workflow –
- More organised and streamlined approach to handling large volumes of work
Korsakow –
- How the hell to use it? Having trouble using it. Totally oblivious in using it.
- Workflow how are we going to organise our workflow, our media and such.
Seth mentions that the standard of videos has gone up from week one. Harder for people to critique as the standard of work improves.

A number of things were discussed and learned in class today. KONY 2012 is one of them.
Couple of points from the discussion:
KONY 2012 -
- Has no problems in drawing attention to itself because that’s what it’s set out to do in the first place.
- It is a collection of bits, sometime random, more often not.
- It utilises home video (for this it’s connected to things that we’re studying now. A lot of different bits that make a whole singular piece.
Apart from going through the KONY video, we learn how to embed Vimeo videos to our IM blogs. I was kinda stumped on how to do this before class. But I know how to do it now!
Seth talks about how we might need to change the way we communicate our practice; the roughness is part of the work, but it’s not and issue.

How do we plan for 30 second videos?
Everyone has their take on how to do that. For me Ill prepare a set of things to record for each week’s video sketch assignment and over compensate on the recording part. This will ensure that in all the crap i record, maybe I’ll find something really good that can be used. Like they say, “Find the beautiful in the mundane”.
I intent to do that. I may fail miserably, but at least I had a crack at it. And this would probably translate on how am I going to shoot my short film for FilmTV1.
