IM1 Group meeting week 9

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

We decided to meet up today to refine our ideas for our group K-Film Assignment and to prepare ourselves for the chance of us getting that bonus 5% marks for next week’s mini critique.

As of now we decided on going with the proposition of “Life is learning, living and loving”. (cheesyyyy)

Some points discussed in the meeting are:

  • what to present as prototype for critique in week 10 and hopefully receive a 5% bonus for the prototype. (Needs to contain a minimum of 15 clips and have 2 interfaces)
  • Discussed about what is needed in the production portfolio submission of the project (Meeting notes and minutes in which we have to have a minimum of one meeting each week until submission. PDF!!)
  • Gantt chart needs to be backlogged all the way to Week 7
  • Outline our task allocations within our group based on our strengths and weaknesses.
  • Set the specifications of our videos and videos thumbnails.

Lab Week 3

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

A number of things were discussed and learned in class today. KONY 2012 is one of them.

Couple of points from the discussion:

KONY 2012 -

  • Has no problems in drawing attention to itself because that’s what it’s set out to do in the first place.
  • It is a collection of bits, sometime random, more often not.
  • It utilises home video (for this it’s connected to things that we’re studying now. A lot of different bits that make a whole singular piece.

Apart from going through the KONY video, we learn how to embed Vimeo videos to our IM blogs. I was kinda stumped on how to do this before class. But I know how to do it now!

Seth talks about how we might need to change the way we communicate our practice; the roughness is part of the work, but it’s not and issue.

How do we plan for 30 second videos?

How do we plan for 30 second videos?

Everyone has their take on how to do that. For me Ill prepare a set of things to record for each week’s video sketch assignment and over compensate on the recording part. This will ensure that in all the crap i record, maybe I’ll find something really good that can be used. Like they say, “Find the beautiful in the mundane”.

I intent to do that. I may fail miserably, but at least I had a crack at it. And this would probably translate on how am I going to shoot my short film for FilmTV1.

Lab Week 2

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

We were instructed by Seth in class to come up with a list of things that we find are hard and easy to do and things that will have the biggest contribution to our own learning.

Below is the list of the things that were brought up the class discussion. (The ones in Bold are the ones that applies to me)

Hard things to do –

  • The understanding of readings
  • Being proactive for the course (Because some people are not used to it)
  • Proper time management
  • The search of additional sources when we don’t understand the course material
  • Understanding what in the world is Integrated Media 1 about
  • The linking of content to other blogs
  • Engaging with the blogosphere of IM1

Easy things to do –

  • Attendance (Though technically it’s a default)
  • Content creation
  • Giving feedback on other people’s work.
  • Giving input in during class discussion
  • Blogging about lectures and Labs

Biggest contribution to learning –

  • Content Creation (I believe that the best way to learn things is to actually do them. By going out there to make the videos I’ll learn faster.)
  • Developing creative ideas
  • Learning how to integrated the different types of media available
