viral facebook statuses.
Remember the days of annoying chain emails?
If you've forgotten (lucky you) you can check some of them out here, on the hoax-slayer.com website.
I don't get too many of these forwarded to me anymore (thank goodness), probably because the majority of people I know now use other means on the internet to disrupt each other's days, such as Facebook.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not completely shallow and superficial, but when someone posted a status saying that they'd answer all these questions about me, if I 'liked' it, then I simply couldn't resist. The only condition was that I had to put the same list of questions, and invitation for others to 'like' it, as my status.
How hard could it be?
Well, turns out it could be VERY hard. For simply getting two people to answer the questions, I ended up having over 30 people like my status. (Pretty sure all of THEM didn't post the same status, though. Rude.)

Now, I do have other things to do (such as various essays, that I already obtained extensions for due to being sick) so I didn't really have time (or the energy) to reply to each of these status-likers one by one. I decided then, that the easiest option (besides giving up) would be to post videos where I verbally answered all the questions. This ended up being harder in terms of upload times, but at least people aren't as annoyed about how 'late' the responses are - they seem to be quite amused...
Anyway, here are the first three parts of the video. I had recorded it as one video, but Youtube wouldn't let me upload it as it was too large, so I cut it into three parts. I did quite a slack job with the editing, because I DO have other things to do, but I think I may spend a little bit more effort on the next batch. (Or not, as the case may be.)
cool things I have discovered from tumblr today:
okay, firstly, i'm writing in purple in support of the 'wear purple' campaignthat's been running today - the background on Tumblr has even changed from it's usual blue to purple.
I've discovered some miscellaneous things today. One is a new music video by Professor Green, sponsored by Doritios, that allows 360 viewing. It's really quite an interesting experience, if not completely perfected yet (I experienced lags...) but you should check it out.
Another irrelevant thing I discovered today is the Gangsta Lorem Ipsum text generator. No longer do we need boring Latin to fill our document plans and designs - go gangsta, homies! (and that is the last time I try to be black for this week.)
fo shizzle.
Tumblr.
My favourite social media tool is one that I have only started using recently. Although interact with many more users on Facebook, I find that there's something really special about Tumblr, and that it allows me to express myself in a very different way that I can through my Facebook page.
I used to love Myspace as a social networking platform as it allowed for more creativity when it came to creating your page, and therefore greater means of visual expression through pictures and music, much different from the white sterility of Facebook. Twitter is good for short, sharp messages, but it's limit of 140 characters or less doesn't allow for too much 'baring of the soul' or posting music or video.
I like Tumblr so much because it's such an easy way to share photos, audio, videos and even inspiring messages. I also feel that people communicate in quite a different way on Tumblr than they do on Facebook, for example, because there is a greater level of anonymity and a greater emphasis on the beautiful and inspirational. Although introduced to the site by my friend Clare, the vast majority of people I 'follow' are people I have never met in real life, but have found due to common interests. I enjoy the emphasis on the work that is created, rather than the person themselves, and that's one of the reasons why I really look forward to being inspired by the work on there.
My Tumblr is very very slowly growing with more followers, however for me it is not about popularity (because more people would notice anything I posted on Facebook) but about posting things that make me happy or move me in some way, for whoever chooses to read it.
FML.

This is an update on the state of my Broadcast Media radio project (for which I'm partnered up with the one and only Zach McSweeney).
So far the interviews that we've done have been great. Some of the stories we've heard have been really moving, the opinions extremely intelligent, the thoughts quite profound.
We ended up booking out one of the recording suites for Saturday the 18th of September, and all I wanted to do was let the people who wrote on our event's wall know that we wanted them for interviews, because I felt they would be more likely to respond to a comment on their post than a group message in their inbox. My clever plan was simply to copy and paste the same announcement over and over again, and therefore not waste too much time commenting. However, I became unstuck when Facebook labeled me as a nuisance and suspended my posting rights for more than a day!
I was unaware that this could even happen! I suppose it's good, to protect people from spammers, but all I was trying to do was give people information that they actually wanted, and I wasn't allowed to!
Sometimes, life sucks.
