NEW, new direction.

Still continuing to narrow down our topic, this time we’ve landed on:

“Examining the influence of American storytelling in the context of Australian TV cultures.”

I also threw all our topic idea into Weebly, a blogging site which would be perfect for our needs (dropdown menus, tabs, images and video uploads, etc). Click here for the link to what we’ve got so far. Sections (tabs, areas of research) at this point will include..
SECTION ONE:
How did American storytelling get so popular?

i. Historical: Famous American authors, Americans pioneered the television, became leaders in economics and politics – influential etc)
ii. Modern-day American storytelling (intro to reality TV, drama, etc etc etc)
iii. Formula for American story (”justice is served”) etc.
iv. Influence and statistical penetration of American media on international cultures.
v. Audience cultures: American media is digestable, appeals to all races, religions, attention spans… etc. Refer to ratings, statistics, more general information on how American media has crept into Aus. culture.

SECTION TWO:
Case studies x 2 (Reality and Fiction, i.e. American Idol, CSI), exploration of these, the formulas they use to attract attention of audiences, reaons why they are popular on a global level.

SECTION THREE:
Interview with TV producer on the influence of American storytelling on Australian TV cultures (we are thinking someone from a network playing largely Australian content, i.e. ABC or SBS).

SECTION FOUR:

External material (videos, articles and external reference points we find online, which shape or reflect public opinion on our topic). Textual analysis by us.

Conclusion, Bibliographic information in different columns.
