The above image features the ‘narrator’ of our film Karl. I have included this images as I think that Karl has a remarkable face for film and his presence in Movie Addicts Anonymous really works well. I think that we made a good decision in casting Karl as the narrator of the film as not only does he have striking features (with deep lines on his face), but he has in interesting Austrian Accent – Which reminds me of Werner Hertzogs voice.
His inclusion brings the film to another level of ridiculousness, highlighting the constructed nature of our film (and film in general). Typically voice over narration acts like an all-knowing voice of god, never faltering. However, in this film, his inclusion works to show that the narrator is not above the characters in the film who are acting out various roles of movie stars. But rather – he is equal to them, dressed like David Attenborough and winking at the audience, The Narrator comes across as just as ridiculous as the other characters.
It just goes to show how important casting is. We were originally going to go with a narrator who had a typical sounding narration voice (like somebody from a Target or K-Mart ad). But by choosing someone as unique as Karl, our film has become richer and more interesting.
