Finally, i went through this semester, it is also the last semester of my university life, and also this self-assessment is my last paper work among these 3 years. To be honest, i am holding enough respect to this self reflection, because it means my overseas study voyage will be ended with this paper. I do not know why i am not too exciting and happy, while i am loan to leave this kind of life here. Well, let me get to the point, I would like to totally againist the listed criteria to judge myself of this semester. Moreover, I would like to give myself specific grade with each points first to make it more clear.

* Successful time management

Yes, it is. Why i put this on the top, because i think it is the worst aspect which works really well for my personal. Well, thanks for clear and concise course guide of PP2 by the way. In comparison with past semesters’ arrangement, this time i finished everything with a stable peace, all individual works were submitted on time, they were not a rush job or into mess before the deadline. I feel i have to do like that, because it is my third year, i need a correct attitude to treat study as seriously. In particular, putting group cooperation stage aside, the early stage for individual work i entirely followed the timetable which was planned at the week 1. UnFortunately, our group shooting was not went smoothly, owing to we have similar personality and life habits, which let us could meet other frequently to fix plan as soon as possible. Basically, we followed the general timeline well, including book gears,draw storyboard, meetings, modify, and final decision. Every step was walked one by one. However, the contact with TSS staff was the most “surprised” step of our whole project, i think we respected their thoughts and suggestion, anyway, the communication between us and them was not successful at the beginning, this costed a lot of time,but experienced a long term and continues conversation, they cooperated with us finally.To sum up, the time management is successful if look the whole semester, at least i sumbited everything( individual)on time, and i would like to give myself CR.

* Worked successfully as team member

In terms of this point, i also like to give myself D, because i contributed extra efforts to producer and director position as well. When we meet trouble in communication with STT, i kept positive attitude to solve problem, i have never give up. In fact, i worked with Tracy more than 4 times, and also she is one of my best friend in daily life. We have 3 people in our group, it seems like more big than other groups, but it really shows advantages, the more hands, the more efforts, and the more contribution. All of us can speak Chinese, this makes us communicate more easier and understand each other well. Despite the culture gap, the factor of language is a obvious barrier when i cooperated with local students before. Although i can get along with local students well and finish the project at the end, while the process is not easy. Therefore, this time, 3 people who have same background and same language, it is no doubt that we will not waste this chance to cooperate and help each other. More important is we have same goal and purpose, we love fashion and arts, we are passionate about this task, of course, all of us have full energy when we started. In addition, we are in the same camp.

* Excellent problem solving skills

To be honest, i do not think there is any extra problem will happen for this subject, until the last 6 mins doc came, i realised things were not such great as what i imagined before. The main problem for us was the negotiation with the SST. We thought Grace was happy to provide venue and corporation with us, however, the conversation about talking some preparation work was not functional, and the process was so slowly, we want to finalise and settle down everything in a short term, because the long term struggle would destroy energy and passion about this project. Although we understand what they Stuff were concerning about, therefore, we changed our ideas again and again until meet the needs and made it satisfied.After all, this work we need their support and cooperation, really needed. It necessary to have a optimistic attitude to face every times’s refuse and “said no”. Well, i would like to give myself D for this point, for my continuous brainstorm and ideas contribution.

* Took responsibility for role

As what we distributed each depends on everyone’s talents and willings, my role is camera assistant and production designer. Our initial idea was panic theme, as a production designer, i took responsibility to think what stuffs and props should be included and prepared them, obviously, it was a panic, i recommend we decide a suburb location, a grassland where has woody table and a big tree, we figured our Albert park has such conditions. But changes always walks faster than plan, because we did not get what we imagined from Grace, we have to find and book venue by ourselves , therefore, we changed a lot our original ideas. Therefore, in order to prepare and make my position works well, i have to keep a sensitive mind to follow director and situation’s shifts, what they want, what they want the films looks like, what the location do not have, i would fix up and make it looks similar, i could not make it perfect, but i tried my best to reduce the distance between director’s imagine and realistic looking. However, in comparison with the role of director and camera person my role is a little bit not such crucial as others, so i think myself pass grade is fair.

In conclusion, put aside some objective causes, such as the limits of the film theme, the factors should be included from the studio, our subjective actions have achieved what we expected at the end. For myself, i took an glance of my experience from this semester, it was a ending, but it also equals to a new start for a further life journey. Past things illustrates my weakness and strengthens, advantages and disadvantages, I should have a optimistic heart to remedy my defect about knowledges and skills ( technical aspects) and make use of my talents in creation and the sense of design and music. In a word, i would like to give my self a CR generally.

Documentaries is the most familiar film series for me, and also it is the frequently film type that i did before, it seems like the most simple one, but simple always is the most difficult one. Everyone can shoot it, record it, from any daily life aspects, spaces, and times, it can be anything, anywhere, and anytime, however, how to make it to great works, that is the vital point. There are many so called documentaries are producing everyday, but just few of them reward great reputation. I love the content of their discussion, it illustrates the various and ” mysterious” processes are constructed by each branches in documentary making, preparation, production and post-production. It highlights that those four aspects are the crucial steps to built a timeline when you ready to start a documentary film. What’s more, the director and guests here have provided me with a comprehensive and systematical landscape for film making. Because i did some film making project before, and write some papers about film reflection, so it likes i am listening constructive feedbacks from those teachers, it lets me think about and review what i did before,which step should be improve? Which step i did by wrong way? Although i know will not work in this industry in my future career, but i feel lucky i have this moment to rethink things that i did before, it also a critical summary for my past time and work. I recommend this group if they can invite more famous director here, this seminar will be perfect. The facility for this seminar is good, i love the food and trailer video as well. It is no doubt that the content is helpful, especially for some fans of films making.

First of all, why i choose this seminar to write reflection, because it seems like a connection with ” The dawn of the digital”. Yes, one side for digital media is welcoming the dawn, another side for traditional media is facing the decline, but radio as a main a branch who alive successfully under high stress and competition. Indeed, i think these two themes are connected each other closely. Just like the guest indicates that the radio industry is not a extraordinary factor which goes the opposite way for the blooming digital technique, on the contrast, it was revoluted and transformed by new media’s shocking.Their guests are all have roots and valid points in community radio, they are practical representatives from radio king world BBC and SBS. We know these two radio are running successfully in contemporary society. It proves that Radio still a crucial department in media family. The host and guests analysed detailed reasons and persuasive examples to support why radio has such outstanding vitality among diversity media forms. I am also thinking about radio can be a typical case to illustrate a process of how media goes through prosperous, struggle in a sick marketing, until innovation and rebirth day coming.In terms of this, i believe radio staffs are contributing significantly, they insist their pursuits, their ambitious, and keeping enthusiastic attitude in this industry, owing related people they did not give up even in rapidly decline usage time. On the contrast way, radio survived finally,even more better than before, it creates a new stage which takes good use of its advantages. Moreover, this seminar has attractive theme and arranges a fantastic explore road which leads by these experts. By the way, the facility of this seminar and staffs here are really nice, I am happy to give a HD grade for each aspects.

I remember this seminar was the last group of the whole semester, and also it was the most impressive one for myself.I love the idea of vampier make-up, when i walked into the door, i was shocked by the decoration and music, even it let my thought i went the wrong room, because i was late be here, the door was closed already.Well, in terms of the content of this seminar, this group explored well the remarkable changes that are happing with insights from industry experts who are working on the digital media industry,although the atmosphere of their discussion was not too lively,but the questions were asked so clever by the host. The three media makers all talked helpful ideas which based on their long time practices and experiences, which were persuasive to present the challenges and opportunities that in contemporary media environment. I have some friendly suggestions for this group, the discussion can be more relaxing because it is a “dawn”, which filled with hopes and exceptions for this potential industry, and also, most of the audiences are media people, who also will work and contribute digital media this fields in the future, maybe arrange more interactions between audiences and guests could reduce the distance from each other, and this way will help us feel more closer to this guests. I recommend do it like other groups work, they arranged question bag for audiences pick up the Q card randomly, i have picked up and i talked to one guests, i can not forget it was a real ” touch” of a famous Australian public relation stuff. Moreover, the guests and the content are the main aspects to critical a seminar, it is no doubt that it attract me successfully, maybe because i did a same theme project last year, called digital literacy, so this topic is familiar for me, i am interested in it automatically. One more thing is the facility of this group, maybe more cakes or snacks, a good event should make everyone enjoy it, of course, food probably can be more diversity, if the budget is enough.

Im comparison with local girls, my contribution was too much, i have to be honest to say, they did a lot than us (International students). But, if compared myself with the past time, i walked a new step out in this semester, I contacted 2 guests, i really did effort, although they did appear on the final seminar. I am a good follower and cooperator, i believe everyone has their own position, in this situation that local girls are really good at social, my role is cooperate all the things they want, i am happy to do tiny things behind the show, assistants anything that need to be helped, including make sandwiches, decorate the venue, moving gears, and also keep thinking and take part in discussion.

I did 3 years sound person role in my university life, sound for audio, for music editing, for mixer box operation, and the final time is for seminar. I have to explain here, at the beginning of the seminar, the sound is good, but after the introducing guests, something wrong happened with the mic. I adjusted all the microphones before the start, the testing practices are all good. I think the audios can hear it clear is more important than what the camera recoding. One of my group member turned the sound off when the host was talking to the Bruce, he said what he heard from the camera was too loud, then he turned it softer, but he turned off the wrong button, this is why there was a short time the sound of one microphone was gone. When i received the feedback from our tutor, it says the sound is still a problem, i really feel sorry and guilty, also shame about that. I know there is no excuse, i have to face it, my position has to took the responsibility of that. I know i have a long way to go, whether be a sound person or be a adverting stuff. Fortunately, we still get HD grade, my mistakes did not destroy our “well-done”job.

I did not attend all, i absented from classes for 2 times, so also twice for group meetings, this is the fact.

As what i mentioned previously, i am not very good at open a communication with strangers, i am still shy about somethings. But i have improved a lot during the 3 years, more confident , more ambitious, and more active. The change of my personality is the most obvious point what i learnt from western education system. I know i will be a media person in the future, although will not in western countries, but the good ability to networking and social is functional in every place, correct and right skills are same in every place in the world.

To sum up, i am happy to give myself CR.

During the past two weeks, we did a lot of things, and almost settled down everything for the seminar, just some tiny things left here, such as tag posters, prepare food,and introduction video. I have attend 3 seminars until now, the microphones in the theatre room is not very good, at least 2 groups of people they meet this problem, despite there are two of the mic were poor contact with the electrical line, the volume of the voice was also out of control, i hope i can do that smoothly, god bless. Moreover, in terms of the subjective thing, the content of the seminar, i just uploaded challenge questions for our group, i am thinking about how to take use of this chance, the communication between guests and host will be awesome, achieve the goal about it is a interesting seminar and also audios will feel the telling of guests is nutritious. Therefore, some controversial questions maybe helpful, like the relationship of economics benefits and audios willings, which is the initial purpose or which is more important to be the basic rule when host an event?

Yes, this month is for the London Olympic Games, it makes me associates the event guests with sports, i am think about maybe we can also find someone who are in this field. I searched on Facebook, there are a lot of people are sports fans and they have their favourite sports groups and pages. I am reading some conversation from public pages and trying to explore who is who, maybe someone is a leader, a host, a sponsor who have involved in an event. I found a Australian born Chinese who are one of hosts in Australian Open in Asia departments, he is doing some public relation and multiple commutation between Australian host and institution from Asian countries, the main places are China, Korea, and Japan. He uploads the photos he took with the super tennis star NaLi, which just shines my eyes, i feel exciting about that, at least there is a person who has all the conditions that i am looking for, i send both Chinese and English letters to him, he is so kind, and he feels happy to do me a favour, fortunately, the week of our seminar he will not in melbourne.Anyway, i think it is the ice breaker for me, i walked a little step, but for myself, it is a big step which let me first time search someone and start to negotiate.

Just as the title says…a sort of things are not really smooth for me, in comparison the sense of achievement which gained from each stage’s ending, the sense of ” attack” is overwhelming my uni life. As a international student, in particular, who are not from a English, capitalism background, things are more harder than others. It is necessary to admit that this seminar and assignments for this semester are really really constructive, yes, it will help final year students surely and remarkably, specfically, for guys who will start career in here or in similar cities. However, for me, i seriously want to make use of this opportunity to open my social circle. However, my social range has a limit, the most of people i know here or people are easier to get touch in are overseas. I really want to invite some related local people to our seminar. This is the point of this task, which will maximum the benefits from this experiences and reach the effects what is expected by tutors by team members. I attempted to contact one guest who i meet on a photography exhibition, he is still thinking about whether he will come to give my a favour……
