Tumblr is a great way to share photos, text, music, videos and more. However, I do find that it is  more commonly used to share and re-share photos. Here are some points about Tumblr’s features: Tumblr dashboard serves both as a publishing platform and an aggregate reader. Posts can be reblogged and liked by followers directly from the dashboard menu. Tumblr blogs can be linked with custom domain names. The blogger can reply with a post on their blog for [...]

Finally, the end has come to stop blogging about this course. However, I don’t think I will stop. This blogging experience is something I will never forget. It was a great experience which taught me all the benefits and advantageous of blogging. At the beginning of this semester, I thought this subject would be an average one because of the blog. But, I seem to have misjudged it. I looked at blogging at a wrong perspective. I never knew blogging [...]

This week, we were asked to present a blog that we like and admire. The blog I chose is: Keiko Lynn is a journalist who wanted to get up and look nice everyday. She is a journalist who works at home. And for a few years, all she did was stay home in her pj’s and didn’t dress up well. She started this blog to give herself a reason to look nice everyday instead of being a couch potato. What [...]

One Girl – that’s all it takes. Just one for one. Will you be that one to give?  From yesterday, I am now very fortunate as to be a part of this campaign by One Girl: Do it in a Dress. It is about you. What YOU can do for others, especially those girls in  Sierra Leone. Do it in a dress is a great way for 1) having fun 2) supporting a great cause 3) sending a girl back [...]

Today, while I was Facebook-ing (as usual), I realised that through Facebook, people are able to find you online. I know what you might be thinking, “Oh, my gawd. Is she for real?” Well, hear me out. I realised Facebook and all other social websites are linked up in Google. If you try Google-ing yourself in Google image, you might be able to find images of yourself in there. The more images or information or friends you have, the more [...]

In the lecture this morning, we had a guest speaker – The Thesis Whisperer. She told us of a few points we should be aware of when we blog. These were: Create a sense of presence! Be yourself! Posing: only a skillful writer can pose and pull it off (otherwise, people will know that you are fake) I guess it is something like acting. You have to take on that role and just forget about your ‘self’ Channels: Hook up [...]

RSS in Plain English I found this video through ‘related videos’ under Youtube and thought it explained RSS really well. In Wikipedia, RSS stands for: RSS (originally RDF Site Summary, often dubbed Really Simple Syndication) is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a “feed”, “web feed”, or “channel”) includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing [...]

The Design of Everyday things

Participation is all about being engaged in what you are involved in. It is about development in many areas such as knowledge and social skills. I believe participation causes people to be more involved in what they are a part of. Participating in discussions in classes or my peers would cause me to think more of and make clearer of the things I have learned in lectures/tutes. It engages people in the ideas brought about and causes us to think [...]
