Sweet Things

Description

A look at monsters through innocent eyes.

Summary

In this narrative we explore the perception of what defines a monster. We juxtapose the freaky-appearance of a clown with the conventional appearance of a mother and explore the way each character interacts with a child. The mother’s interaction with her child challenges the stereotypical assumption that a mother is a caring character. The mother brings the child to tears, just as the clown enters. As the mother storms off, the clown seizes the opportunity to take the child when the mother isn’t looking. But what is the clown’s intention? The child experiences the monstrous behaviour of her mother and the ambiguous behaviour of a monstrous-looking stranger. An open-ended final scene leaves the audience wondering, who is the monster in this narrative?

My amazing group

To be honest this is the first time in my uni career that I have been a member of such a large group. (5 people). I can definitely see the benefits of working with more people such as the wider variety of ideas and input that is shared as well as a more extensive knowledge

WE HAVE FINISHED!

After a lot of hard work and many many hours spend in Bonza (including Sundays!) we have finally completed our second life project. We are very happy with the outcome and feel that we were able to achieve what we originally set out to do. Using second life as a platform to make this project

Review

Group 1.1
Jekyll and Hyde
I thought on first view of this video that the storyline and concept was a little hard to follow and that the four minutes allowed was not enough time to fully express their idea. In saying that, after watching the video a few more times the important aspects missed in the first

Castle in the Second Life sky

Laputa and studio Ghibli… Castle in the sky -
It’s a world out of time. A world where a young boy’s dreams soar as high as the mythical floating island known as Laputa. Pazu’s dreams are about to be realized, when Sheeta, a young princess and government escapee, literally floats down from the skies, saved only

What do you think?

I thought that this was quite an interesting article, especially as we see the rise of social games such as Farmville. It can be thought that these online platforms are far simpler and convenient to immerse ones self in then not so user friendly platforms such as Second Life.
Here is a portion of the

Second Life goes real life

ah this sums it up what most of us think about second life… pretty well…

Revised shot list

Revised shot list:
1. Long shot of quiet street, mutant charging through street with purpose
2. Mid shot of bystander looking at mutant in disgust
3. Mid shot of person in street afraid of mutant
4. Long shot of mutant walking through street, a mother and child in frame
5. Mid shot of stern mother glaring at child and raising

Using the Green Screen

Green vs Blue

Green Screens used for video and blue for film.

Digital intermediates made the choice of colour (based on film vs video) redundant. Everything gets scanned (and effectively winds up as video) before the composites are done.

The reason these colours are used – green and blue don’t appear in humans skin tone.

Virtual worlds are getting a second life

Virtual worlds are getting a second life

We haven’t heard much recently about so-called virtual worlds such as Second Life, in which you move around with your own avatar. Critics must be hoping they have disappeared up their own ether. Actually, they are booming. The consultancy kzero.co.uk reports

When it worked, it worked great

Second Life seems to be burning a little hole in my pocket. Finding the right animations etc is a bit of a process. First off the SL main website makes it very hard to create an account. (ie nothing ever works grrr) Then when it does start working you will need to prepare yourself mentally

Forget second life get a first life!

I can across this funny parody of SL while researching participation in virtual worlds. Id did have its own website, but has since been taken down.

SL and education

Second Life is currently one of the most popular and mature multi-user virtual world platforms that are being be used to facilitate innovation and pedagogical activities in online education. This alternative approach to online education has allowed education facilities to easily and inexpensively develop and modify user-created virtual worlds, especially when compared to the real

Without dialogue…

I have been having a look through machinima.com at SL videos made by other users, particularly looking for videos that tell the story without the help of dialogue.
Our group has been discussing whether it would be better to use silent movie type titles or a voice over to help communicate our concept. Will the storyline

Maybe we will need an animation.. or two

As our project is progressing we are starting to see grey areas where we just don’t know if something will work or not. This is due mainly to our unfamiliarity with Second Life (all first timers) and it’s capabilities. I know that when i found out that we were creating a machinima in a virtual
