Final Reflection

This task is quite useful for our future career and makes us to be aware of network environment. It combines both theory and practice, which is what we will do in the future; the process of study in media area is also a process about how to put theory into practice.  We developed our ideas and collect information during the process from the first manifesto project to the final one. We can see the difference and critical thinking on our own idea. It benefits on knowing about both what we good at and we need to work on.

Also I gained more skills on  creating eZedia project, using videos, images and sound. Be independent on the analysis and producing, but learn from other great works.  Be efficient on planning and doing. Be active on everyday media practice. And I found myself become more curious about the current media issues-like technology, theory, cultural and art developments. Those are very important for us to work in media industry area. It is a long way from practical to professional. The thing is that we become more confident  to  speak louder on our own voice, within an acceptable way, by impressive methods.

We can move the camera along with us, or just make it as a still subject to watch what is happening. For showing what you want to show to us.  The digital camera already has enough distance of sound and image capturing.

The frame can be motivated, it can have more perspectives and your own point of view, do not need to objective.

The Camera angle is used to suggest either vulnerability or power. And Canted framings are used to create an impression of chaos and instability for our vernacular videos. Mobile frame can adjust for the figures’ movements.

But we need to keep the size and duration short. Because the main path of vernacular video is based on the Internet publishing.
Maybe we are at some situation where we cannot shoot them within the normal angle or cannot keep the frame still, or maybe we would like to suggest something within a particular frame.   At least we are manipulating our surroundings and creating and trying something.

No matter where or when, there is not forbidden rules to have our own special videos. Also, we can  change the speed or add effects to suggest some feelings. And we are free to choose the materials for our video.

The objects and subjects are all available for us to be filmed. And anesthetic

In “Vernacular Creativity and New Media” , Jean Burgess demonstrates :

” While the first half of the phrase ‘vernacular creativity’-the ‘vernacular’-is used in a deliberate and focused way and at the same time is relatively uncontroversial, the second half of the term-’creativity’-is both utterly ubiquitous and fiercely contested as to the proper scope of its legitimate usage in contemporary culture.” (1)

So the creativity for the vernacular video involves the everyday cultural practice and it is also belongs to practice of everyday media life.  The conventions could be explored by different method and with different reasons. The contents can be changed    and developed the shooting. The thing is to break limits within curiosity and creativity.

Vernacular video is quite different from filmmaking; you do not need to look for the locations for shooting your vernacular videos. You can choose everywhere you want.  We do not need a script, as Sherman says “the technology of video is now as common as a pencil for the middle classes.”  .

And it is also can be related to the topic of videophone, and it is the convenience of small equipments to shoot everything just happened in front of you. Digital camera also can do it, because it can capture both images and videos,  no regrets for important moments.By the way, for video cameras, the better effects and results will achieve for video shooting, however it is not so important.

Aesthetics are a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty.

Video art distinguishes itself from the broader media culture by its predictable associations with visual-art history (sculpture, painting, photography) and cinematic history (slo-mo distortions of cinematic classics, endless homages to Eisenstein and Brakhage, etc.).

1.       the aethetics in vernacular art is different from other forms of art , but it has multiple atthetics.

2.       the form of photographic design (visual art) becomes an important element in digital art. Also video art focuses on the graphic quality , which focuses on the visual atthetics.

3.       alos the music in the video art becomes the second important element, which cannot be taken apart of the visual art. But

4.       cinematic changes also influences the video art development. (editing, fashion, principle, style)

5.       network makes video art more popular and makes it achievable for everyone.(e.g V-blog,video phones)

6.       video art is kind of personal and local , which means with strong stylitic meaning.

7.       video art in social content : education and art

8.       technology : size, duration, visual effects,trend

9.       advertising:art v.s marketing

10.   cultral : vernacular video develop classic art or fashion, also create new ones.

11.   philosophy: in a summery to talk about the art in different forms , but they all present their unique fuctions by working together.
