How to shoot interviews

Interviews are sometimes sensitive or with a kind of distance. Interviewing people is an access to get into another person’s life and thoughts.
So there are some points of interviewing people that we need to consider before we actual shooting:

• Who interviews: makes subjects can act /talk naturally

• Setting: lower barriers , surroundings, with significance

• Pay attention to the presence of others off the camera

• Vox pops

• Camera placement: interviewers face to audience or to someone off-screen

• Considering cut point

• Shot size and cut aways can evoke time, mood and affects

• Editing ( cutting): similar physical attitude, speech / sound flows, action flows between two shots. (match cut/jump cut)

• Wide shot : cover each questions

• Medium shot: after the answer has gotten under way

• Close shot: something particularly intense or revealing

• Settle people and yourself at ease

• Questions: interesting, rehearse. Focus, eye contact, cross boundaries, elicit feelings, in depth, with orders

• Privileged moments

• Believe in your authority

• Clarifications , examples

• Check back or offer opportunities if need to add more

Creating kid in my second life

Our team needs a young girl as Kay when she was young. So we need a young character, before that I looked up on Youtube.

I was so excited that I found the SL can be similiar with the popular TV series.

Though we can not change the story , I still enjoy watching it.

So I decided if it is possible, I ll play a role like in  Gossip Girl in my second life.

my friend’s work : amazing colour

this short film is my friend–Noverber’s work. He is studying in Beijing.

And he is a photographer for fashion magazines. I like his works a lot.

The story is mainly about a girl who heard that she gonna meet her Mr. Right four times in a day, So she is searching and wondering who is her Mr. Right.

The story is simple, but the whole film gives us a feeling of sweet love. And with the music, the whole work also can be a music video. The using of green colour expresses the freshness of falling love — the innocent university love.

Explore in Second life:

I found the second life is actually very interesting, I can fly, oh ,yeah !

And also we are encouraged to add our classmates and friends in the second life.

But what makes me feel headache is that it is really headache to get the free clothes and pretty dress. ( some are not free !)

And also we need to design our house and to find the best equipments and furniture. It is not an easy job.

actions for the characters are not easy….

it introduces some details about how to control.

documentary approach

I think it is a right time to begin thinking about the approach for our documentary shooting.

1.watch others’ pieces and talk those elements with your collaborators. (e.g create  an intimate portrait or a stylized whodunit)

—so  after the process of discussion , our group decided to film some interviews of people who have experience on “speaking in tongue” .

2. think about what elements you want to use for an historical film, but not how to use them.

—-  Stevie suggested that we can use the music from a film , which can create the mysterious and special effect for our film. But Scott argued that it may have conflict with the footage which we gonna shoot in the church , there is a youth band with energetic songs. I think we still need to keep Stevie’s suggestion, because it reflects our topic–Speaking in Tongue, with mysterious colour. The music can strenghten the sense of this topic.

Research 1–Speaking in tongue

Here are some videos I found on the Internet . To be honest,”Speaking in tongue” is a new word to me. I have not heard about it. But after done the research on it, I became to remember that actually i had heard of that  from one of my friend, she told me that she can speak another language which she has no idea what she is speaking. When she is praying , she thought those words in Chinese in her mind. But when she realized she was speaking another language , she recognized that is a special way between the god and herself, so that devils nearby cannot understand and hear the conversation. That was the long ago , i heard of it. Now my friend is in New Zealand, and she was a good friend of my friend, we did not talk much before. So I think it is a big shame that she in not in Melbourne.

this is my favourite one, i like the way of the editing , what s more , it teaches me to understand more about “Speaking in tongue”  , but i think our group work will be much different from this one, at least a kind of different style.

Speaking in Tongues

this one is a little bit scary , but it leaves a deep impression. ( hard to watch it by myself  at night though)

the quality of this video is quite poor , but what she told us is quite useful. it is the basic understanding of “speaking in tongue”.

it is an interesting piece.

And actually I think our group’s story is a little bit boring.

But I have not come up with a better idea. So…

But if the feeling and we can change the story a little bit, I believe that our group work can be a good piece.

What can we do with SL

Our abilities to create and manipulate prims may be the most godlike feature of second life.

Prims can assume any shapes, variety of shapes to make transformations easier

And we can select textures to the surfaces, And they can be given certain qualities and features, and they can be linked to each other.

The activities in SL are heaps. You can go shopping, skydiving and bowling, And what surprises me is that we can attend concerts or live show lol .

In the introduction: SL is rich in events of all kinds from movie festivals and shows by major real life artists to local events organized by individual residents , locations of current and upcoming events are market by a pink or purple star on the world map, and advertised both in the SL , classified and at http://secondlife.com/events

But Sl has its rules and regulations that can limit resident activities. different areas allow different types of activity . Areas listed as Mature allow activities euphemistically known as adult behavior, while PG areas impose stricter rules. Many areas are dedicated to pursuing a specific kind of activity within a specific environment.

Role Playing is very popular on SL. To be surprised , 18.6% of male members fnfessed to living their second life as the opposite sex.
