"The Monocular" has died
The human eye is much like the conventional video camera in that each converts a "single environment" into a stream of information. Retinas and charged-coupling devices execute similar processes of transduction... possessing two eyes is perhaps similar to possessing two video cameras turned at slightly different angles — two perspectives technically, and better depth-perception. But the digital age allows for the replication, synthesis, or juxtaposition of countless perspectives simultaneously... a kaleidoscopic view of the world, if you will.
Simultaneous or alternating? Partial or absolute? How do we distribute our attention in this new age?
