This website, in its entirety, is a response to Lev Manovich's essay on spatial montage and the cinematic aesthetic of density. Above all else, this response is exploratory — conclusions are not the end and aim.

As a space to navigate, the Machine Theatre provides many paths and options. This is in part the reason for keeping the index page as bloated as it is. You may wish to understand the core ideas raised in Manovich's essay before diving in, becoming immersed without direction.
