Single Stream Preferred

A hypertext essay by Karin Christensen

Manovich (2001, p. 328) claims that "we may find multiple streams of audio-visual information presented simultaneously, more satisfying than the single stream of traditional cinema" merely because our daily lives are becoming more "audio-visual" and we become "surrounded by highly dense information surfaces, from city streets to Web pages" that stem from the "new cinematic aesthetics of density".
While Manovich is content with this idea, I disagree.

Traditional cinema is a powerful medium that has the ability to engage with and evoke emotion from an audience without requiring their imput through interactivity.

Do you agree?

This hypertext essay will discuss the positives of traditional cinema and point out the negatives in the new interactive cinema, with consistent imagery to show the simple power of a single screen.
