Participation-Conclusion

To conclude my participation…

This semester..i’ve really update my blog very often..compare to last semester..and as one of my criteria, which is uploading and updating, i think i’ve really done well in this. To prove it, in 12 weeks, i’ve already uploaded more than 40 blog post, which not only about integrated media, but also things outside this subject, which i think it’s useful and meaningful.

Other then that, completing my weekly task…in this..i think i did not really do that well..because i did not complete all..but i’ve completed Task 1 , Task 2,Task 3, Task 4, Task 5.

While completing my tasks, i’ve learn even more about final cut pro, which helps me alot, and i think it’s worth it doing those tasks.

Helping peers is one of my criteria too….which i think i did. I helped some of my classmates on using ezedia, teaching them how to function ezedia, and also helping them to understand the manifesto.

Lastly…..Commenting on peers’ blog….Which i think i did not really do well..i did comment, but not often, which is BAD..BUT..i did comment on my classmates’ work verbally..and i also gave them comment on their idea of manifesto.

In conclusion.. i think the grade that i’ve gave myself is good enough..at least i’ve done most of the things that i’ve listed at the beginning of the semester, and some i even done more than what i wanted myself to do.

Manifesto—Reflection

My Thread and Needle…

Well..i think im lucky enough to get a credit….i need more research…

my work have to be more concentrate on “Dissolve”..yes.. it’s dissolve…the major part of a video is no longer the content of the video, it’s the transitions which is “dissolve”..how can i make something like that happened……….what have to be done……

my proposition….well….i definately have to cut out the part where i talk about the tools of making transitions…

What is a dissolve????

my answer cannot be..it’s a way to join two things together..then what is a dissolve?

it’s a…way to present something?

it’s a…part of emotion…

it creates an emotion..

it’s an art of video??

Participation Part 2

My previous Criteria…

Well..i think the criteria that i’ve set previously is good enough..

and…i’m giving myself…..a D?

Why…

i will not be giving myself a HD..because i think i didnt really so well in two part..first is with the tasks..well..to be honest..i didn complete the last two task that we have to complete..but other than that i’ve work hard enough to complete the other task. beside that, i also thinks that i did not do well on comenting other’s blog. Well, i did pay a visit on other people’s blog, but most of the time i did not leave a comment…sometimes when i want to leave a comment but it doesnt really work well…(im not sure why..that’s a problem im facing..stil trying to solve it out.)

Other than that, i think i work quite hard to understand manifesto, and i’ve also done quite some research on manifesto..which i think the efford i made worth a D..besides, i did regulary upload my blogs..which i think i’ve improve compare to last year..last year i hard post blogs..

To conclude…i reckon i worth a D.. :)

Manifesto-Thread and needle

Tittle: Thread and Needle
Transitions are basically like “thread and needle”. Thread and needle are used to sew two material together, so as transitions, they are use to connect two different clips or video together. Transitions are use in the space between two video or clips to make the video look more professional. Transitions are very important; people who want to produce a video must have a good understanding about how to make effective transitions. It is as important as spacing within words, like what Adrain said, “a word without a space will not be a space”.
There are lot’s of kind of transitions that could be explore. The most popular transitions that are used are the cut, dissolve, and wipes.
Dissolve will be what I would like to explore.

Propositions:
1. Dissolve is one of the popular transitions that are used by the editors. In almost every single movie, we could see at least one used of the transitions of dissolve. Dissolve are added in the space of the two video or clips.

The adding of dissolve will make the video look smoother than just cut through.

2. Effects making
To make the effects of dissolve we could use a various of tools/program. Transitions of video are made by tools…what tools?digital tools. Which is things must be done using the computer/electronics. Transitions are digital effects. Transitions can be made by :

Imovie-The most basic and simple way of making transitions.

Final Cut Pro-Transitions are able to be insert in Final Cut Pro

QuickTime – Quicktime include over 145 effects..
In all of theses programs above in their editing sections, having an effects of “dissolve” are a must, and in here I would like to focus on using Imovie and final cut pro.

3. Creative and playful
The space between two clips could be use to show how creative and playful an editor is. The editor decides how creative and playful they could be. Which they then explore using the space. What does creative and playful could mean? Creative and playful can be in many form. Every different human bean has their own sense of creativity.
Dissolve itself actually have many types. In Final Cut itself, they already have 7 types of dissolve, and the way we put them together are the space where we show our creativity.

In the video that I provided, using my playful way, I’ve combine the transitions of dissolve in Final Cut Pro, which make the result of the transitions are much more obvious than the video clips itself.

4. Dissolve as process of production.
Transitions are mostly done during the process of post-production. Instead of believing transitions are a part of post production, we could make it as a part of production process. Which means we are now focusing on “dissolve” transitions as our production, “dissolve” will consist in most part of the video. To make it clearer, our video is all about “dissolve”.  It can be how the video “dissolved”, when the video is “dissolved” to the next video, how long it takes to “dissolved”, etc. Transitions will now be part of the production and post-production. It’s the major part of the video, it then will be the major reason of why the audience watched the video.

In the video that I’ve provided, I have uses one clip, and the clip is “wrapped” by the transition of dissolve. This will make the audience notice the exist of the transitions, and the transitions is the major part of the video.

5. Creating Emotions
Having emotions in a video or films are a must while producing a video or film. We can create emotions in many ways, like during the production, setting up the lighting will effects the emotional of the scene. Other than that, using transitions will effects the emotion of the video/film.
The way transitions are used in the space between two clips or video will most likely effects the emotions of the video.
Believe it or not, even a single video or image with transitions will be able to give the audience a very strong emotion. It is all depends on how the transition is used. Dissolve will be used in the video, and with slowly dissolving, the video will be able to let the audience feel moody or emotional, because being slow will make the audience feel uncomfortable. Whereas when the video dissolves quickly, the audience might have an emotion of curiosity, because with a very fast dissolve, the audience will not be able to have a clear look at the video.

In the video that I have provided, it consist two type of version, one is the slow motion of dissolving and the other is in a very fast way of dissolving. Both of the example are able to give the audience two different feeling. The one on the left, is the example of slow motion, in the video it slowly dissolve, the way it dissolve will make some of the audience feel irritated, emotional, moody, or the feeling of “wait”. On the right hand side is the fast motions of dissolving, the video is repeating again and again, because want clip is less than 2sec, even it continuously repeats, the audience wont be able to have a clear look at the video, and they hardly know what is that, this is when curiosity arise.

6. Dissolve light things up
The way a transitions of dissolve goes around the video will affect the video itself. Dissolve are already part of the video, and again it’s a must for most of the video, it will actually be possible to make dissolve as a major part of the video.  With extra more or longer of dissolve, it will be able to allow the audience to notice on some not so obvious or unseen scene in the video. In another word, through dissolve, the creator will be able to make the audience focus on the part where they want the audience to focus, they can control to eye sight of the audience.
Like how one of the famous painter Michael Chesley Johnson did on most of his painting. Michael claim that he likes to zoom in, to make the image that he is interested on to fill the frame. This is how he uses the technique of zooming, to control the audience, to make them see what he likes.

In the video, with the way of the transition of dissolve is work and set, the audience will then first notice the brighter part of the scene, which where the editor intend to let the audience look at.

Propositions number 5

5. Having emotions in a video or films are a must while producing a video or film. We can create emotions in many ways, like during the production, setting up the lighting will effects the emotional of the scene. Other than that, using transitions will effects the emotion of the video/film.

Like how one of the famous painter Micheal Chesley Johnson.

Micheal uses the technic of zooming to present his painting.

Thread and Needle

Thanks to Adrain and his jellybean…i FINALLY know how to get my manifesto done!

Alright..from what Adrain says:”a word without a space will not be a word”

Transitions are used in the space between one video and another…so..we can then explore the transitions itself.

Tittle: Thread and Needle

Transitions are basically like “thread and needle”. Thread and needle are used to sew two material together, so as transitions, they are use to connect two different clips or video together. Transitions are use in the space between two video or clips to make the video look more professional. 4. Transitions are mostly post production. Instead of believing transitions are a part of post production, we could make it as a part of production process. Which means we are now focusing on transitions as our production, transitions will consist in most part of the video.

The manifesto…Thread&Needle

Here comes my manifesto AGAIN..yes again…alright..after receiving Adrian’s advice..once again i’ve decided to do….transitions again! Ok..now..other than transitions i wont be thinking about any other things again..

Now..let’s explore….

1. Transitions of video can be make by various tools

alright..first of all..transitions of video are made by tools…what tools?digital tools..which is things must be done using the computer/electronics..Transitions are digital effects. Transitions can be made by :

Imovie-The most basic and simple way of making transitions.

Final Cut Pro-Transitions are able to be insert in Final Cut Pro

QuickTime – Quicktimes include over 145 effects..

2. Transitions of video can be creative

3. Transitions of video are mostly done by digital effects

4. Transitions can be used not only in video

5. Transitions of video are used to connect disconnected things

Transitions are able to control visual transitions between two sources. Sometimes simple cuts from one clip to the next work well, but sometimes you might want to use fancier transitions from scene to scene.

6. Transitions of video can be made not only by experts

7. Transitions of video will be able to control the timing of the video.

8. Transitions of video could make the video be short and efficiency.

9. Transitions of video could help on constructing video

10. The overusing of transitions.

The Manifesto…Again & Again

Yes..Mel.Lee is talking about…The menifesto AGAIN!!….Today..while discussing my Manifesto with some of my classmates..i realized it’s not only me who got stuck by the manifesto!! That’s not a good thing though…Anyway..back to what i think about manifesto..I start to realized that…..i dont like the idea of doing transitions…………yes..i don’t like….but is it too late now to change my idea?? i dono…………………

well…now…d thing that im confirm with is..i’ll be sticking with the Vernacular Video…..and from there..i’ve read thru AGAIN…(i’ve go tru more than 5 times…-_-”")

alright…..and.. i’ve spoted another thing that i felt interested in..which is:

“The people’s video is influenced by advertising, shorter and shorter attention spans, the excessive use of digital effects, the seductiveness of slo-mo and accelerated image streams, a fascination with crude animation and crude behavior, quick and dirty, voice-overs and bold graphics that highlight a declining appreciation of written language.”

From this sentence….

The main think that i wanna bring up is “Shorter and shorter attention spans”, and i’m thinking of a very very very short video clip would be able to provide the audience lots of information/knowledge. Then..to construct a “meaningful” video, there ways to do so. It has to be meaningful, it has to be short, it has to be straight forward, it has to be interesting…etc.

So now…

My Tittle: Short & efficiency

Propositions:

1. A short & efficiency video should not be more than 1 minute.

2. A short & efficiency video should be straight forward.

3. A short & efficiency video should be able to be understand by the audience.

4. A short & efficiency video should be meaningful.

5. A short & efficiency video should be well constructed.

6. A short & efficiency video should be interesting.

7. A short & efficiency video should be creative/playful.

8. A short & efficiency video should be unforgetable.

9. A short & efficiency video should be able to show the creator intention.

10. A short & efficiency video are mostly found in the internet.

The Manifesto….Again

Yes..it’s the manifesto again….after receiving some advice from Adrain..Well..i’m still keeping the sentence i’ve choose, which is:

“Digital effects will be used to glue disconnected scenes together”

And this time i’m sticking with “transitions”=Connecting

The Tittle: Transitions…(Or Thread and Needle)

Well i though of using “thread and needle” because the thread and needle are one of the tools that able to put things together, therefore i choose them as my tittle. (welll….i jz realized i could use “The Glue” too)

alright..then to my propositions, i hope this time i got it right..i should not make questions i guess..may be things i need is statement? Adrian say that “if you want to make work that relies on
digital effects to achieve transitions then that is your manifesto and
then the propositions are about why, and how.”

Then now…im thinking with the word “WHY”, “HOW”, “TRANSITIONS”

here goes my propositions:

1. Transitions of video can be make by various tools

2. Transitions of video can be creative

3. Transitions of video are mostly done by digital effects

4. Transitions can be used not only in video

5. Transitions of video are used to connect disconnected things

6. Transitions of video can be made not only by experts

7.

8.

9.

Still processing……………….
