Self-assessed

Overall i’ll give myself a Credit. I will not give myself any higher because i think compare to the other group  mates my work load are not as heavy as them. And i will also not give myself something lower than that because i know i did put effort on helping to deliver a better seminar.

Contribution & Collaboration

What did i do throughout the process of organising, delivering, and publishing:

Before the seminar, i did some research that are needed to look for potential guest, although i didn’t get replies from them, but i did help up my group member to call up some guest to invite them to our seminar. Other than that, on the day itself, i also complete task that are given that is organizing the furniture in the room. I also gave some help to other group members to complete their task, for example one of our member who are suppose to bring food did not turn up at the end, and we had limited food, me and Angie went out to get something more. At the end we get Sushi, with also a reasonable price. Other than that, i also maintained the order of the crowds. Besides, i also help on cleaning up the theater at the end of the seminar. I guess although i didn’t give much help organizing the seminar, but i think i gave quite alot help on the day of the seminar.

Proactive Learning

To deliver the seminar to the class, the first thing to do is to search for potential guest, after we’ve got the list of them, we then have to contact them, this is also everyone’s task. I reckon this task is able to practice our communication skills, because we have to call them up and deliver a message and ask permissions. While delivering the seminar, i realized team work is very important, if we did not collaborate properly, when the “catering” problem occur, i think we will not be able to solve the problem very quickly. Again, communication skills is very important, it enable me to negotiate a good price for our food! :) Other than that i think socializing skills is quite important as well, because good socializing skills will lead to good networking.

Participation

I have to be honest, i am not an active group member, i did miss quite a few of the group meetings, but i will never forget to go on our facebook group to keep myself update, and i also did meet up with my other group mates to keep myself updated. Other than that, i think i am very active during the seminar, i find myself quite helpful, i did put effort on helping up, and improving the seminar.

Connection & Intersections

What do you see as the value of the seminar series?

The seminar series are able to give us more understand on various area of the media industry. I found some of the seminar quite helpful, it gave me depth understanding of some industry that I am interested in.

What have you discovered about your learning, your group interactions and your networking abilities in relation to this series?

What i’ve discovered was, good communication skills is really important for us, as a media student we have to communicate with people more than other people, especially when we are approaching all kinds of professionals. Other than that, with good networking skills will make things even more easier for us while looking for guest speakers.

Future career development

Other than communication skills that i find it useful for now and for future use, the understanding of this field are very helpful too, because it enable me to understand more about what i am doing in the future. The process also improve my network in Australia, at least now i know who should i approach if i want to look for job in the future.

Week 10 – TV & Film

Week: 10
Seminar title: Film & Tv

1. Appropriate questions (research, moderation, hosting)
I think for this section I’ll give the film and Tv group a D. Other than a small little mistake while introducing Ruth Cullen, overall the host was quite good at entertaining and interviewing the guest. From the handouts and while the host was introducing the guest, I felt that they did quite good at doing their research in order to provide the guest’s information and backgrounds clearly. Other than that, the host also did quite a good job to by asking questions that us the audience might want to know.

2. Guest relevance to the topic
For this section I think they worth a High.D. The guest that they have invited are all professions in the film and Tv industry, they are either a Director, Producer, Director of Photography or a writer, which totally qualified to be one of the guest speaker for this seminar. All of the guest who came is all full of experience, they’ve got a lot to say, things they said are all useful for us for future use. Among 5 of the guest, Rory Mcguines caught my interest, not only the work he film, but also the style he film his work, and he is also a Director of Photography, that is one of my ambition.
3. Quality of seminar facilitation (including set-up, staging, refreshments, audience interaction, flow, technical eg sound, IT)
For this section I will be giving them a Credit. They did a very good job on setting up the stage and also the sound and visual. The host and the guest were able to interact well with the audience. But, the flow of the lightings weren’t really good. The refreshments weren’t really satisfying, but I’m able to understand why, because last week they didn’t have enough audience to finish up the food they’ve prepare.

4. Seminar Content
As for the seminar content, I will be giving a High.D. The seminar content suits the title of the seminar, and the visual for the seminar were very interesting, especially from Rory Mcguines, I really got touched by his work. Other than that, what the guest said made me think about my own future, I was thinking about do I really want to do what I want to do.  “Passion and Curiosity” is the key word for me from this seminar.

Week 7 – Alternative Pathways

Week: 7
Seminar title: Alternative Pathways

1. Appropriate questions (research, moderation, hosting)
I think for this section I’ll give the Alternative Pathways a D. The host was quite good at entertaining and interviewing the guest.

As this seminar was about Alternative Pathways, therefore the guest are all from veriety background, from Sports, Public Relation, Advertising and designers, which totally qualified to be guest speaker for this seminar. Although some of the guest does not have lots of experience in this industry, but they’ve got a lot to say, things they said are all useful for us for future use.

3. Quality of seminar facilitation (including set-up, staging, refreshments, audience interaction, flow, technical eg sound, IT)
For this section I will be giving them a High.D.  They did a very good job on setting up the stage and also the sound and visual. The host and the guest were able to interact well with the audience. Their snacks that they’ve provided are different from the other groups, it seems like they did spend quite some time in bring up something “fresh”, instead of using a plastic cup for candies, they provide cute little container for the cookies for each of the audience, that’s a thumbs up!

4. Seminar Content
As for the seminar content, I will be giving a High.D. The seminar content suits the title of the seminar. I really like when they were sharing what problems they had experience and how they solve it, and also things about their own company, how their company treated them. It was interesting listening to what people from different areas faces while working, some might be different from us the production team.

Week 6-The Write Way

Week: 6
Seminar title: The Write Way

1. Appropriate questions (research, moderation, hosting)
I think for this section I’ll give the Write Way a D. From the handouts and while the host was introducing the guest, I felt that they did quite good at doing their research in order to provide the guest’s information and backgrounds clearly. The host was quite good at entertaining and interviewing the guest. Other than that, the host also did quite a good job to by asking questions that us the audience might want to know. I think the most useful question that the host asked was about how they get notice by people out there.

2. Guest relevance to the topic
For this section I think they worth a High.D. The guest that they have invited are all professions in the journalist industry, they are either a Writer, Editor, or well known blogger, which totally qualified to be one of the guest speaker for this seminar. Although some of the guest does not have lots of experience in this industry, but they’ve got a lot to say, things they said are all useful for us for future use. Especially about how to get yourself notice, and also about the hard time of getting a job, which are quite useful and something that we must know if we want to be a journalist.

3. Quality of seminar facilitation (including set-up, staging, refreshments, audience interaction, flow, technical eg sound, IT)
For this section I will be giving them a D.  They did a very good job on setting up the stage and also the sound and visual. The host and the guest were able to interact well with the audience. Their refreshment was quite good as well, the way they serve the refreshment was good to, instead of putting them all together on the table they serve it by walking around the room, which I think it is good, so that people wont have to squeeze and get the food.

4. Seminar Content
As for the seminar content, I will be giving a High.D. The seminar content suits the title of the seminar, especially when they were talking about how to get notice, and how useful Twitter/social network is. I realized through social network other than knowing more friends or keep on track about friends, we can use it to show our own ability and talent.

Guest Speaker

Anthon Ikram Umit   from Melbourne Films.

Angie from our group found Anthon, CEO of Melbourne Films, we decided to invite him to be one of our guest speaker because we thinks that he has a strong background and experience about online video. Most of his video are promoted and showed online, therefore we reckon that he will have the ability to explain how to promote our video through the new media.

Anthon is a very nice guy, I called him, and he agreed to come to our seminar and be one of our guest speaker. :)

Social Media – Blog

To be honest, i’ve missed a few of the meetings due to some personal reason, but although i missed a few of the meetings, i also did catch up with my group mates and also did go on facebook very frequently to find out what to be done. I’m now not responsible in the online video category anymore, i’m now responsible in the “social media” category that includes “how do we promote ourselves using the social media tool” , that i think involves blogs, therefore i’ve searched and contacted some blogger, and still waiting for their replies.

Research–1

As i’m in the Indie Online group, and i am interested in online video.

i’ve found this article about “How to make money in online video“, it is quite interesting, although it is more about advertising through viral video, but it is useful, because i believe almost all of us are interested in MAKING MONEY. :D

There’s this part of the article that i find it quite interesting, that is “KISS”

K- Keep

I- It

S- Simple

S- Stupid

Most viral video are simple, and they are always aming for high hits, therefore those viral video are often kinda “stupid”, this method will catch more attention from the audience.
