Prod Participation

I think Prod is a useful subject, and i learn quite a lot of things during this semester. I realized Prod is not just about producing 3 online videos, it also allow us to learn how to apply different methods or techniques such as: Stop Motion & time-lapse in the video, it also teaches us how to be even more creative. I was surprise on what i’ve gotten out from Prod, it enhance my creativity in producing a video. I think it is different from TV1 & TV2, because in both TV1 & TV2 we have speacific role, and the way of producing the video is limited. However, in Prod, we are actually the Director, DOP, Editor, we all have to work together, and this enable us to experience all different role in one time. Besides, an online video is not limited, we can use all kind of method to produce it.

Being a Learner

As a learner, i found the workshops are very useful, especially the Time-lapse workshop by Nic Kocher and also the workshop during week 11. Time-lapse is something very new to me, and i felt glad that i learn it!! Although i might not be applying it into the video that we’ve produre, but i find it very useful, even for any future use. Other than that, week 11 is interesting,  it enables me to understand the pro and cons of the 5D n 7d, and also made me understand that how powerful can a DSLR camera be.

Blog of the week

Philip Bloom

http://philipbloom.net/

in Bloom’s website, he’ve got alot of good stuff there.. he basically talks about everything, including: cameras, techniques, lens, sounds, and lot’s of things that we’ve got to know!

other than that, he also teaches how to make time-lapse. In his work he will always explains what camera he used, what lens he used, and also how it works.

Week 11

=The use of 5D & a bit of 7D =

7D it can produce 2x slow motion compare to 5D

7D it’s not good for taking wide shot

5D can set high ISO

Work Flow

Pre-Production

  1. Checking the distance

- To search for suitable lens for the camera

2.  Research on styles and looks for the video

- To get suitable lens

3.  Do lighting test

- Check ISO (p.s: for 5D better to stay between 800-1000)

- Set suitable appreature

- Set suitable Shutter speed

4. Setting up video profile

P.s: Taking off stablelization!!

5. Mount the camera

Post Production Process

- H264 Compression

Software recommanded

Individual Reflection

In this studio, i think it enable me to apply all of my skills that i’ve learn throughout these 3 years, and i also learn alot of things that i did not get to learn in the past few years. Such as : Stopmotion and timelapse. Before the 2nd semester, i knew what’s stopmotion is, but i do not know how to create one. Then through pp2, it gave me a chance to create my first stop-motion video. At first, for the draft it was quite satisfying, But unfortunately, the outcome of the video wasn’t really satisfying, because other than stopmotion, we thought of adding some basic animation, which is challenging, because neither of us has a creative mind and the skills of animating. Creating a better background for our video is part of our challenge,as an editor for the video, i did go through some After effects tutorial, and hope that i could get something out of that, but time was another problem, i do not have enough time to learn and explore therefore i ended up working on final cut pro, which a software that i’m most familiar on.

Another challenge that i reckon all my group mates are going through is brainstorming ideas. As the poem that we’ve chosen is quite abstract, the poet left alot of space for the audience to think and imagine, it is not direct enough and it doesn’t really has a story in it. Therefore it is quite hard for us to translate the poem. The characters in the poem has a complicated relationship, it involves third party in their relationship, which leads us to our idea for our 1st video, a complicated relationship, meanwhile we want to make the video look “fun”.

in conclusion, the most interesting workshop would be the stopmotion workshop and the timelapse workshop, because i reckon these two workshops will be very useful for us to create a creative and interesting video or online video. In pp2, i think it allows us to practice all of the skills we’ve got, because this studio has alot of hands on things to do. All of us in the group could be an actor, editor, DOP, and a director at the same time.

Timelapse

we tot of using timelapse as part of our technique in our 2nd video, and this is one of our timelapse video that we’ve created. It was shot in St.kilda, we waited for sunset for 45minutes on st.kilda beach..It was quite an experience…although it’s a hard time waiting (due to the weather), but the outcome is satisfying!! :)
