Second life Reflection

For this semester, i think i would give myself a Credit.

1. My understanding on second life.

I think i understand what is second life and how second life works, but im sure there must be some other things that i do not know in second life. In second life, i think i at least know some basic things, like building an object, im able to build my own object, like a post box stand and also a table. Other than that, i’m able to place a house on our land, and i am also able to edit the house that i’ve placed on the land, like chaging the size, the out look of the house, etc.

2. Being creative in Second life.

Well at first i think im not being creative enough, after Jenny mark our storyboard, she say we need to be more non-realistic, we have to make use of second life, because second life allow us to do thing that we cant do in real life. Therefore we’ve change abit of our storyboard, from realistic to non-realistic.

3. Group Contribution

To be honest, i think i didnt contribute much for this subject, although i did turn up to every group meeting, but i think the work i do wasnt that much. I did do things that i’m responsible to do, like build up the set, create our own character and also draw the storyboard.

4. Produce a video

For post production, i did nott really contribute, i just try to give opinion whenever i could.

5. Blog regularly about my progress

I did blog whenever i did something in second life, i think that’s good enough.

6. Attendance

I attend almost every tute, and try to contribute in it, but for lecture, i didnt really attend all of them, but i’ll go through Jenny’s blog every week.

Green Screen~

Today’s topic~ about green screen~~ well although our group’s video do not need any use of green screen but im still curiuos about it, after i saw Henrietta’s group’s video, while during their production, while they are shooting their video, i did help abit on the character movement, that is seeing which angle look’s good~and that was when i saw them using green screen for their set, and i was silly, i asked why she needed green screen for their set, and her anwser was that they need it because they do not want other group’s building or sets to be inside the shoot. For her set and the position that she want her camera to be tends to show what is behind the set.

After that, while she was editing, she also taught me how to change the green screen to another background image, it wasn’t hard, but not simple. In her blog where she talks about green screen also explain how and why she uses green screen, which i think is useful~

Alright~now feedback from Jenny for our SL-Full version..

It’s slightly the same as the mobile version..we need to add more close up of the face changing of the boy..and while showing the face changing we need to add more sound effects, that is scary, to make the vision more strong.

According to Jenny, the sound track is too thin..the bird sound that we used does not make the audience feel moody..there for..we might need other sound effect..

The glass breaking part..the sound of the glass has to be earlier thn the action of the boy..

Jenny:”we need close ups”.

the environment have to be more dangerous feel.
tittle too small..(credits tittle).

We’ve got jenny’s feedback today..

hrmm..there’s a few thing that we prob need to think about it again..1st the mobile version..
well..for the mobile version..i agree there’s some of the image are quite blur, and cant be seen clearly..to solve this..we can use Photoshop~we could fix the contrast of the image in photoshop..prob make them more sharper?

We need more close up too..well…it’s abit contradiction..well to me though..because..if we want to reveal the changes of the kids’ face at the end then it will be like adding a non-naturalist scene at the end just because Jenny tell us to, therefore..we need to be more consistence..

At the end we need credits! :)

P.s: Thanks Toni, Jenny likes the mobile version! good job!! :)

Wonder How?

Im wondering how to improve my editing skills, because i knew im not good enough~ while i was wondering, i found this:

The 6  ways to improve your editing skills by Matt Janowsky, he is a video production specialist and is the founder and creative director of Inspire Digital Multimedia

1. Watch Commercials
Commercial breaks on TV are easy to ignore and digital video recorders let you skip them altogether. Start watching and studying them with an editor’s eye. Movies take two hours to tell a story, a commercial must tell the tale in 30 seconds. It’s all about the edit.

2. Rent More DVDs
Watch for pleasure the first time, but listen to the director’s and editor’s comments the second. I remember listening to the editor’s comments on the movie “Seven” and thinking, “Wow, that was better than film school!”

3. Start Surfing
Don’t just be a casual observer on the Web, grab your board and dive in. Join user groups, read blogs, participate on forums and, by all means, ask questions. The Digital Juice Forums are a great place to start, you can ask questions, get answers, learn new tricks and meet some pretty cool people. You might even become a “Juice Groupie”.

4. Print It
Pick up a magazine and study the ads, look at billboards and posters. Print ads are a great place to learn about composition and text placement since the concepts are the same for both still and video frames. Figure out what looks good and why, and apply it in your next video.

5. Hook Up the Trailer
Watching movie trailers, like commercials, is a great way to learn. They tend to have fast paced editing, great graphics and cool text effects. Don’t be too proud to directly copy shots and compositions that you like in your own work.

6. Make Mistakes
Cartoonist Scott Adams said, “Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep”. I love that quote. You have to allow yourself to make mistakes and be willing to try new things, even if they don’t work. I usually learn more from my mistakes than I do from my successes. So don’t be afraid, go ahead and screw up.

As an addition, i think watching music video is also a good idea, because it helps us to think and learn how to tell a story with the lyrics and also with a short time, which means it’s good for short film i guesS?

Amazing thing in Second life.

Second life is so amazing that some might not know. In second life we can do things that we cant do in real life, this is the main thing that grows the second life. People in the virtual world is increasing, there are different things that we can do, which is unbelieveable! In the political side, there are headquaters sets up in second life, where people can interect with each other, that is also known as a “virtual campaign”. Even obama’s campaign is in second life!!

Shoot Shoot Shoot=Second Life

YES~We’ve finish shooting our second life story~ home n street~welllll~~

Let me share our steps:

first, we have to make sure our character, settings etc are perfect~~it is important to make sure everything is hiden before we hit the button “Record”.

Then we shoot from one scene to the other, from the beginning to the end. After that we shoot some different angle of the same scene, such as shooting close up, wide shoots, and we also tried out some different way of presenting. We also make use of the gesture, which enable the character to have facial expression.

The character in second life are like actual actors, they’ve to get change in different scene. In our story, we’ve got more then 3 character, therefore some of the avartar have to be change after one scene.

I reckon, everything will go smoothly if we do things in patient, without rush. Now it’s time for editings!

Second Life-In progress~

Yesterday We’ve finally got things recorded into the tape~which is good!! and the only thing we need to do now is editing!! Yeahh!!

Process:

Well……during the shooting..nothing big problems occur though..which is good~Shooting in the digitaly is actually quite different from shooting in real life, we can change the timing of the set, such as changing it to day time, mid day, night time.
