Argument supporting Chinese senior citizens to migrate to Australia :

song-and-dance troupe

There is a song-and-dance troupe in the Elderly Chinese Association of Victoria. The members of the troupe are all over the age of 60. The director of the troupe said: We did not make any contribution to Australia when we were young. Now we are here in Australia . The Australian government gives us pensions so we should do something to make some contributions to the Australian society in return. We want to show the mainstream society that we are making our contributions. That was why we set up this song-and-dance troupe in the Elderly Chinese Association of Victoria. We participate in various activities such as Chinese National Day, Spring Festival, Australian National Day celebrations, etc. and perform more than 40 times a year. Apart from performing for government activities, we also perform for the elderly in aged care facilities and for students in normal schools that teach Chinese. The schools want their students to learn more about China so they invite us to give performances. It is just like the grand parents performing for their grandchildren. For all the performances, our members do not charge money at all, not even a cent. Some uniforms for performances are even paid by digging into their own pockets. It is my sincere hope that, through this song-and-dance troupe, we do our part in contributing to the Australian multicultural society. Therefore it can not be said that the elderly migrants in Australia are useless.
