October 24th, 2009From the previous feedback received from Seth and Keshanee, I made some changes with the third video poetry in terms of playing more with speed, looping frames, and thinking about the rhythm of the video. Music is yet to be included as I will be forwarding the edit to my friend once everything is finalized.

October 20th, 2009Recap: I attempted to edit the stills in final cut pro by scaling and cropping them but didn’t work as we need the frame really still while everything else is moving.
T’was once a never ending shoot
October 17th, 2009Keshanee and I have finally shot our last video poetry for PROD! yesterday! Hoorah! Very Thankful to Emma for helping us and participating in the video. And to Toni for some pro tips on doing time lapse using an SLR camera. His moral support is very much appreciated as well.
The idea is taken from our initial proposal of having the subject still in the middle of the frame and everything else around her is sped up. This is to emphasize the essence of ‘bustles.’ Keshanee did the sketch for this video using still photography and shot it at night. The lights looked cool and the movements in the background conveys the city bustle while the subject is depicted as anxious in the foreground. Although, one important issue here is the unsteadiness of the frame. So we really thought of re-doing the shots again and had a conversation with Seth regarding time lapse and shooting at night. We received really useful feedback, and from there, Keshanee and I decided to shoot this last video during the day instead. We are really after the busy environment in the background and thought that it doesn’t really matter if we shoot at night and have blurry lights and movements in frame. We can still have the same busy background happening during the day and lots more visual elements going on as well.
video 3 summary
October 17th, 2009As we’d use stop-motion and animation for our previous videos, we wanted to try our hand at timelapse for Video 3.
We tried to think of how we could differentiate this third video from the previous one. One idea was to film at night as our previous videos were in daylight. Due to time constraints and learnings from the video test, we decided to film the final version during the day – mainly due to the fact that more people would be around and this would look better for a timelapse sequence.
Another point of difference is the use of a character for this video. This character is the central point of the video and represents the themes outlined in the poem ‘Bustles’. We wanted to show social disconnection and how overwhelmed the character feels in the bustle of a city landscape by making her the centre and having all the action happen around her – hence the use of timelapse…Read More in Keshanee’s blog.
Final Self Assessment
October 15th, 2009Contribution and Collaboration
Throughout the collaborative process of planning and organising the seminar event, I was managing a group blog | distfuture.wordpress.com | that documents this whole process and communicating with everyone in the group to ensure the fluidity in the collaboration. I wrote a blog post on our first meeting where I documented each member’s designated tasks and plan for the seminar event. Since then, I continuously blog about our meetings, to-do-lists and group reflection as a whole: collaborative planning in week 4, work in-progress in week 6 and finalizing everything prior to the seminar event. I have also blogged about our group’s participation in mid-week of planning and organising the seminar event to track how we are working together as a team. Joe did an amazing job with the video ads 1 & 2 and video introduction for the seminar. I documented the rough structure of the seminar and I designed the flyer as well. Overall, our group blog is a reflective space for our collaboration process and journey.
Proactive Learning
I was keeping in contact with everyone in the group throughout the process of planning the seminar event and I was updating our group blog as well. I thought about linking to relevant materials online that I could refer to in terms of the particular media industry that we want to explore in the seminar. These posts are also part of out work in-progress of relating the distribution industry in other different aspects of media – open to potential employment opportunities: industries and distribution. We were the third group to present the seminar and therefore, we were able to learn from the two seminar groups before us. Personally, I was reflecting on two things: what worked and didn’t work so that we were able to improve the overall presentation for ours. The quality and relevance of the seminar guests are very important because they are the main body of the seminar event. Very proud of our group to have contacted 5 amazing guest speakers.
Participation
I managed to attend all the classes and seminar events for MI2 and thought that everyone did really well in the overall presentation and collaboration. I think that I did really well in managing our group blog. Part of my role is to keep everything organised. Toni edited the video of the seminar highlights, we planned the video reflection/summary but Jessica edited the piece together, and I compiled these videos plus the photos taken by Connie and John. I wrote down notes from each seminar especially the career advises from the guests. I didn’t really have the chance to ask questions in any seminar because I thought that they’ve covered, pretty much, things that I was expecting to know about the topic. And I was engaged with the seminar discussions as a whole and gained knowledge of different industries and how to start a career in media.
Connections and Intersections
I thought that the seminar series was a great opportunity for collaboration and group participation. I really enjoyed working with my group and I see the series as really useful especially in gaining insight to different industry sectors. I also thought that inviting guest speakers currently working in the industry was a great experience as a whole because they have the knowledge and experience to share to everyone in MI2, especially that we are graduating and hoping to find opportunities in the field.
I’ve learned that effective collaboration relies heavily on communication and understanding what each member is responsible for. So if everyone knows who needs to be doing what, things are easier to accomplish because each member has their assigned roles. As for me, I felt challenged having to communicate with everyone in the group. But in the end, it was a great experience for me. Overseeing our collaborative process and managing the group blog were the things I enjoy the most. I felt comfortable with writing and reflecting about our group’s journey and talking to everyone, discussing issues and things like that. They motivate me to do well and collaborate well in the group.
Overall, I could say that it was a great collaborative experience and I see it as something useful in the future because I experienced working with different people, having different personalities and dealing with group issues and such.
