This is the digital story of Sonny Ash (nickname Ted) growing up in North London in 1920's and 1930's, WWII, and emigrating to Australia as a Ten Pound Pom.

Sonny Ash was born in London in 1919, at Queens Charlotte Hospital. He grew up in Huntsworth Terrace Marylebone, North London. In 1939 he joined the Territorial Army, like many at the time was part of the home defence. He later joined the campaign in North Africa 1942-43 then to Italy 1944-6, on his return to England from the War, sonny spent 6 months in a military hospital with TB. After hospital he moved from London to Wales unitl he emigrated to Australia in 1964.
