'The Interstella Flaw'
Introduction to Essay
This essay is designed for the course Networked Media, RMIT. The following work is based on article Blogging Thoughts: Personal Publication as an Online Research Tool Researching Ict's in Context written by Mortenson Torril and Jill Walker. The 'Interstella Flaw' is a hypertext story about a fictional blogger named Berty Bench. The purpose of using a fictional character as the main focus of the story, is to demonstrate the characteristics of a blog post and to create a model reflecting the blogging community. Themes discussed are online communities, the barrier between public and private (ie, the implications of working within a "public arena"), and the way a discourse is created through a single inconsequential post. The story is based on Berty noticing a flaw in his favourite show Interstella. Interstella is a (fictional) science fiction show about aliens, battle's etc. Reading the blog posts: Each of Berty's posts are segmented into top and bottom halves. The top half displays a quotation of the days blog post. The bottom half is a criticial reflection of the themes evident in his writing. This essay is a hypertext, therefore it is non-linear.
