Brown Owls is a Melbourne-based community of local and faraway crafters, who gather once a month or so to knit, sew, embroider, crochet, fabric-swap, and drink the odd glass of champagne.
Founded by Pip and Kirsty following the success of stitching nights at the Meet Me at Mikes store, the group has over 200 members and a waiting list for each night.
More than just a group of clever fingers, Brown Owls are part of the larger indie craft movement and have a strong online presence, through a website, a Flickr page, Facebook and innumerable related blogs, as well as being involved in the excellent Softies for Mirabel project.
This website takes a closer look at the founders of the group, a selection of members, and also includes a not-at-all exhaustive list of Brown Owls and their friends in the online craft community. |
