"Links are like roots, tendrils, reaching out between fragments, creating a context for bits and pieces that at first glance may seem to be unconnected fragments."
-- Tortensen, Torill, and Jill Walker

According to Wikipedia, "Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries." According to the theory, seemingly unconnected people, who keep different jobs, raise different families, and lead different lives, can still be connected and have something in common.
