How to write a popular post

Leo Babauta on freelanceswitch writes about » How To Write A Popular Post. It is really useful for bloggers who want to have more visitors to their blog. Here are some points that she suggests to make your article becomes popular:
- The most important step is to write a catchy headline as it is more than anything else to catch the attention. An eye-catching headline will arouse curiosity and make people want to know more and read your entire article. Most importantly, Leo suggests that the headline must be relevant to the benefit of the readers and should be revised several times before publishing.
- Deliver the content – your article should deliver exactly what the headline advertised otherwise the reader will feel tricked.
- Like writing an essay, the first paragraph after the headline is the most important part of the post to grabs the reader’s attention. Try to make a great lead is what Leo recommends.
- Using list to make the post well-organized if you have so many thing to write on your post. Moreover, the reader can easily get the main points without spending much time.
I totally agree with Leo on these points. By the way, I have experienced that shocking title draws much attention and easy to get people involve. Of course, the content must relate to what the title says. Moreover, I believe that the way you write to lead the readers to the core of the issue in order to make a discussion is much more important. Using appropriate words and phrase for a particular topic is highly considered. For instance, refers to my project in Promotional Design class, I use the phrase “Kick-Off” to name a local tennis event. However, it was said irrelevant to the sport I choose. Both my lecturer and peers commented that the name would be most suitable to a soccer or football event rather than tennis. In fact, what I mean by using this word is to start/to begin playing tennis. Anyway, they are right. The target audience would be easily confused if they hear of the name alone. In the end, the logo that I created for this event has been changed to the term “serve-it-up” which is usually used in tennis.

Personally I think it looks much better, not just about the design but also the name of the event would easily catch their attention and relate to what they have known about this game.
OK, back to blog writing, Leo also has other posts on different aspects of blog writing that are worth to see. Hopefully with these kind of guidelines, we can enhance our skill in either writing on blog or offline document.

But what if you don’t want strangers visiting your blog? My blog is to document my research, not become some kind of popularity contest. I think the ‘5 blog entries’ assessment task for Transient Spaces needs to be changed.

Hi Pheona,
I think it’s really an issue if your don’t want strangers to visit your blog while it’s there on the internet. The function of a blog is to share your thoughts & stories with others and receive what their opinions in return. You can moderate the comments from strangers but you can’t prevent them visiting your blog.
BTW, i don’t understand what you mean why the ‘5 blog entries’ task need to be changed.
