• How would I build my argument? What do I have to say, and then bring in others who might share different views? One of the criticism with my writing now, is that I often talk about a writer and what each person is saying, but not put forward what my views are.Think of this like a job application.

• Am I articulating what exists? Or possibilities and making a proposition for a way of practicing? Am I positioning communication design within a discourse of design theory? I think I’m doing a combination of all three. I am making a proposition about a way of practicing, but part of that is articulating what is there within a certain language that enables graphic design to be positioned within the design discourse. It’s embeded in practice and the realities of what it is to be a designer.

• I have gone from personal reflection to theory, and beyond the personal and looked at other practitioners that helped me flesh out the theory of being a practitioner. What language are they using to articulate the same intent?

• Part of my research is fleshing out the communication design in graphic design. What does it mean to focus on communication in a graphic design practice? This seems to be more of a subsidiary of undertaking this research.

• Where was I at the beginning, and where am I now? How has my practice changed as a result?

• Frame why I am writing text that is accessible to design peers, due to disparity between articulation of theory and practice.

• Variables in the scenario are the strengths and weaknesses of the research. How am I arguing which ever way I am going. How do I acknowledge that this can be a flaw, but it is the practice, and what does it mean in practice, and how could the practice change, if it needed to. The fact that everyone does it doesn’t make it right, or best practice.

• How does UCD and theory from other disciplines integrate with graphic design practice? Perhaps it is very hard to integrate this, due to the different practice of day to day. What would be my position on this?
