Idea for an introduction

In a letter of recommendation from my boss of my previous employer, Stephie wrote that the most impressive part of my skill as a designer, was that I valued the process for both the client and the design department in achieving the goals for the organisation. At the time when I was working at Save the Children (UK) 8 years ago, I hadn’t recognised I had such skills, and because of that, I hadn’t given it much consideration.

In graphic design industry, so much emphasis is given to designing the outcome and artefact. Portfolios are usually the designer’s tools to get jobs and showcase their skills to new clients. However, whilst undertaking my PhD, I began to realise that the process in reaching the outcome was indeed something I valued and enjoyed the most. I enjoy the relationship I have with my clients, and I had developed strong bonds of friendship with many of them. What Stephie had valued of me as a designer all those years ago, is something I have begun to pursue within my PhD research.

Yes.
