Lisa relayed Cameron’s comments about investigating the role where in the diagram I drew, the Com Des diagram joins the Grap Des diagram, and to find out what graphic designers care about and what they can do to take those skills into other fields, such as communication design. Inorder to do this, I need to perceive from my unique position where I am a graphic designer, even though I don’t identifying myself to be one… if this makes sense. With Dear John, Lisa recommends that I be an observer to examine and identify the transferrable skills the designers have other than their ‘designerly’ skills and to tap into their motivation in how to engage them to enable them to consider the audience without it being seen as a sacrifice to their creativity. The intention is to explore many strategies starting with the ’scenario and characters’ as that seems more ‘designerly’ and does seem to generate and engage designers in a good way. where I could try out various ways to allow designers to be creative, yet at the same time consider the audience within their personal process.
