SAB Completion Now August 2012!

Some great news to start the year.

Due to the speed of construction of SAB it has now been agreed with the builders that the new completion date be August 2012 (actual date to be advised closer to that time). This means that rather than aiming for occupation by 1 February 2013 we will now be able to occupy the building six months earlier.

This is very exciting and means that we will have to adjust our planning processes accordingly. These plans include ensuring access to professional development for staff to enable appropriate use of the teaching facilities in SAB. There is also a project currently considering administrative transition options to better streamline College operations. We will all need to work together to be ready in time for the new occupation date!

As you know, the health and safety of our staff and students is paramount. A much earlier exit from Building 108 will assist us in this regard as we would not have been able to complete rectification of all remaining floors in Building 108 within this time frame. Given this new occupation date, there will be no further rectification of floors within Building 108. However, the strict monitoring and general maintenance protocols will continue until occupation of SAB.

Moving sooner into the state-of-the-art SAB building will further enhance the reputation of RMIT and of the College of Business as a leading Australian business school. As any new information emerges about the actual date of occupation I will pass that on to you. For those of you who have not toured the SAB please take the opportunity of doing this – if you contact Kate Duggan (Ext. 50370) she will be able to organize this for you.

Best regards
